I thought the seat was extra comfy. Like dad's old leather recliner.;)
Thanks Jamo and great picture.
Wilf wouldn't let me near his home. :3DSMILE:

It's totalled. :p

As Tony suggests...just drive it. If it fails, then think about changing over.

Slave cylinders don't use an O ring, they use a 'cup'. Their failure is generally a result of the edges of the cup literally wearing out over time. Premature failure can occur if the surfaces of the cylinder that the cup moves back and forth in are rough (not smooth). This can happen if moisture gets in the bore and 'sits' there rusting the bottom of the bore and 'tearing' the rubber cup next time you push the clutch in! Result is sudden failure of the slave cylinder due to leaking fluid. Drive home without the clutch (as Jamo noted) and buy another one (their cheap) two bolts, a bleed and your done! Beats the heck out of dropping the trans!

Guys,

Thanks for the help and recommendations. I scrapped the HTB and went with the included external slave, I made a bracket (thanks Robert from DSCC) that bolts to the trans which holds the slave.

Works like a charm other than the fact of an initial failure (leak) of the brand new slave!!! 20 mins later bolted a new one in its place...

I actually drove my car yesterday, I will wask it, take some pics and post shortly.

Thanks to Ed and Robert from DSCC for all their help over the past few days getting everything together. Steaks and beer on me....

Mark,

That was just the ghost of past failed hydraulic TO bearings giving you its last gasp.

I was telling Ed last night that the slave on my first BDR (#198) never gave me any issues. Thirty mis later, the one on #559 started leaking like a faucet...

Sure glad it was an easy replace as oppose to changing out a HTB...

What clutch master cylinder are you using? Mine is a little stiff.
I am using a .75 bore Wilwood.

I figured if I went to a larger bore it would at least shorten the stroke of my peddle.

I have a 3/4 Tilton, that should be the same as a .75;)

I think it is a Ram 11.5 with a three finger presser plate

Cool...next time we leg wrestle.

Honestly, I was worried that going to the slave setup would make for an unbearable clutch action, but it never developed. Appears to be the same push to me. Using a McLeod clutch, with a .75slave on a standard BB fork.

Left leg or right?

Clay's and Steve's slaves are easier to push than my HTOB. It's not bad just a work out in stop and go traffic.

What slave are you using?

David Kirkham 08-31-2007 11:19 AM

I would rather put in a 1 inch master cylinder than leg wrestle Jamo.

CNC for the slave...

JayBar 09-03-2007 09:21 AM

I finally got under the car and took some pictures of my slave setup.

There is no bracket. It just inserts through the hole in the bell housing previously used by the clutch cable. I added a thin fiberglass spacer to give it some heat insulation. You have to extent the pull arm to reach the yoke.
Works well but like all hydraulics in the BDR it needs to be flushed out on a regular basis.

Nice looking slave... I don't believe I have the ability to do that on the quicktime bellhousing. I ended up using a bracket to mount mine.
