UNKNOWN Cobra on e-bay
Any idea who the manufacturer of this 80's era replica might be? MG suspension, center mounted gas cap, 427 grill opening, round tail lights. Whodunnit??? :LOL:

Looks like an Arntz/Butler car. The early build date really limits the number of manufactures that it could be.

ebay cobra
It looks like it might be an early vintage of West Coast Cobras. They have a center fill on the gas tank. but now they only recommend using the 460 engine in there cobras.

I think Arntz/Butler was finished with manufacturing by the 80's, and they also generally have a side mounted gas cap. Due to the MG suspension one of my thoughts was also Arntz/Butler, but that fuel cap and round tail lights don't seem to fit...

Bennet was still doing them in '87. I visited his shop at that time.

My Butler was bought new in the mid 1990's. It looks pretty close to this car, but the tail lights are square and the fuel filler is on the right rear.
Door panels, seat belts, and interior look identical. Kind of odd without the scoop and single exit sidepipe. |

It's a Bennett
Bennett Cobras, as referenced in the Ebay ad, was a cobra replica manufacturer that supposedly had a pretty good product and an accurate body shape. That is definitely not a West Coast car - these are relatively huge with bulbous fenders that gives them a distinctively different appearance.

Good call Buzz, it was right there under our nose, BENNET! They also worked closely with ARNTZ and EXCALIBUR! They have been around since the 70's, somehow they slipped under my radar. I see they also built some cars with the fuel cap on the side. Obviously the Bennets can vary in detail from one car to another. Seems little doubt they basically use the Arntz/Butler body design. Or, would it be more correct to say Arntz borrowed from Bennet???
