Racing Windscreen Help
For those of you that occasionally use the small race windscreen can you comment on two issues for me?
1. When you have the windscreen on - what do you cover the windshield holes with? are there covers you can buy or have you made something yourself? 2. Do you run the windscreen while daily driving? If so is the local police force tolerant of you car with the small windscreen? I would think so b/c it is really no different from riding a motorcycle? Comments? Kramer |
1. Haven't covered mine. No biggie.
2. The police have been very nice about it. I have been next to them or across from them at intersections, and even been in front of them without issue. I'm sure if they had a bug up their butts about something they could give you some sort of a warning or ticket though. |
Thanks Brent.....I was hoping you would respond as I knew you rolled with the smaller screen quite often. I plan to do the same but just wanted to check around...kinda of hoping some of the cobra guys might be in-service or retired officers.

There's a person here in Washington who's converting the entire force...One officer at a time. Before he's done, there may be more officers in Cobras than police cars. :D

Racing Windscreen Help
Over here in NZ, we are allowed to run race style screens, but they are funny about repro cars, for eg if you owned a old Bentley race car with the small race screens no problem as that was that particular model.
Motorcycles have them so its really your choice if you want a screen or nothing at all. For our initial certification the guy told me that the bottom 4" or so needs to be blanked out and you must be able to see over it, my mind boggles to that logic about blanking out the lower part almost to make it into a body part and not see through. I think they purposely try and show they are in control and we must do as they decide.........F***wits. |
I've been running with my wind screen for the last 4 years. My State Inspection Sticker is on the windshield, at home in the garage. Have been driving next to State and local police (at least 10 different municipalities) and all they do is smile and give thumbs-up. They never stopped me for loud exhausts....600 HP and no mufflers in the side pipes.

I have little rectangle covers that go over the holes for the windshield. They have a "leg" that goes down and is attached to the windshield mounting hole in the frame/cowl structure. I've had no problems on the street with the police. When they pull me over it is usually to see "what's under the hood." See my photo gallery for picutres of my FIA.

I don't cover the holes when I have the racing screen on. But I usually only run it when I'm on the track as I have found that without goggles or a full face helmet the bugs, rocks and other assorted stuff tends to get in your face. Also a passenger really gets it. My wife rode with me on a parade lap at the WSCB and cussed me all the way around the track.:D

ERA-576 Jack where you at VIR for SAAC last year? Red car in the garage with a dry sump system. I talked to you about the Aviavid System brackets? My pictures didn't come out well. Do you have any you could send me on your system? Thanks Rick L.

Thanks everyone for the windscreen help. I finally put mine on yesterday (I'll put some pics in soon but I am basically going for an exact match of the photo by my signature.

I just checked out your photo gallery; Nice color combo. I like the stripes you've selected. Just a heads-up, without the downforce of the fullsize windscreen you'll probably get push through higher-speed sweepers.You may want to play with front ride height, or add a chin spoiler. I was at SAAC-31, but my car was the Silver #6 with Red-White-Blue strips, clone of CSX-3022, like the picute that Kramer displays. I have a Aviavid wet sump, external oil pump, and an Accumsump - total system is about 13-1/2 quarts. Currently in the process of building another Side Oiler and am thinking about a dry sump for it.

I have seen a couple of guys that made brackets that have a bezel just like the one on the full windscreen and bolt to the same location on the chassis but on top is mounted a ray-dot mirror. Here is a photo of a cobra which looks to have this setup (not a great photo but I think you get the idea:
