Engine backfiring question

I just got my Temporary Operating Permit the other day, so I can now drive my Cobra legally on the street. One thing I noticed is that I get a loud backfiring, which I hear at the exhaust pipe on the passenger side, when I let off on the gas after a HARD acceleration. This doesn't happen when I'm cruising at low RPM's, just after I really get into it. Any ideas/suggestions to alleviate this situation?

Sounds to me like the header bolts may be loose or the gasket is broken allowing air to get sucked into the exhaust.

Wayne -nailed it. Sounds like a leak to me.

Congrats by the way for getting your car on the road!

With mine it was always the flange bolts getting loose. Keep em tight and no more back fire. Hope that's all it is. I use the RTV Copper silicone for a sealer there too. Good luck!

Jams-Thanks for congrats on getting the car on the road. As you may know, it's no small feat in California! I grew up in NJ, I wish the Ca. registration/smog process was a little easier!

John-thanks for your input also. Seems like everyone sees it the same way. Nice color on your Cobra, I just painted mine Titanium Gray Metallic, and it came out really well. I'll post new pics this weekend.
