tranny

I order my kit and will pick up frame in Oct, ordered my engine last week,

351W, stoked out, 450 HP - about same torgue. I am planning on 3.55 rear end gears.

Question is do I go with 4 or 5 speed tranny?

What should I use for shifter ??

5 Speed TKO 500 or TKO 600

Ditto, on the TKO. Planning to switch from my Toploader in the near future.

Here's another vote for a TKO.

You could also look at a super alloy T5. It is rated at 450 and is more than 1/2 the cost of a T5 and you don't have to pay for a $$ TKO bellhousing. You can get one at astroperformance.com

If money is no object... the TKO 5 or 600 will be good.

TK0 600 ...#5008 w/ .64. The .64 OD will drop the rpm's down for cruzing, and helps gas milage with 3.55 rear end. Weekend warriers ,(you and me and most others)would only use the first four gears at the track . The other ratio's (.82) are for the serious RR guys . ...no gas mileage....little RPM drop. Most of these don't dive on the street......or they don't care about gas mileage...at all. They (.82) may also be running a heavy cam that may not like the .64 RPM drop. I was just talking to a guy about the 351w ....450 hp and below is street manageable ....above 450....it's running peaky....not good for the street. If you are below 450 hp then I believe .64 with 3.55 will work well.

All this is kinda gray.....I'm going with 351w 425hp tko 600 .64 3.54 rear

I was going to use a TKO but have decided to go with a G-Force T-5. Better shifting, less weight, and can easily live in a light car even with 600 hp.

Mike,

You're right on the OD ratio... My stroker in #559 is running a "snotty" cam and doesn't like being below 3K while cruising. The .82 has been an excellent ratio for my combination.

I had the .62 OD TKO in #198 with a 450HP 351W street motor, It didn't mind chugging around in the 2K rpm range.

As for gas mileage? Isn't that what a civic is for?
