Hi, Newbie here
Hello from Meridian Id. I've been lurking this site for a bit (not everyone from Idaho lurks in men's bathrooms). I'm not a current owner now but I'm in the beginning process of research. This site looks to have all the knowledge and resource that I'm lacking. I know what ever kit I end up with it will be an owner build. FFR is currently at the top of my list, but like I mentioned I'm just getting started in the process. My mind is open. Actually the whole Cobra idea is my wife's. I had a 67 Mustang that I truly loved. When we parted ways (the Mustang and I) she said I could have another when I'm 40. Well, time is ticking but she want's a convertible. I can't stand convertible 4-seaters, so what else embodies that kind of 60's Ford lust in convertible form?... yup a Cobra. I wonder if she has any clue...

Hi Glen. I got my Cobra at 39 and have had it for almost 3 years now. Got it used on the classifieds at ffcobra.com . It was 8 years old and it gets driven daily. Man are you going to love it. -John ( cobrafreak@gmail.com )

You might notice a little post elsewhere on this site about Cobra Ownership. Worth the read. You need to hook up with your local group somewhere and check out the cars in person. And your wife if she's AT ALL interested. You've got to get a 15-20 min. ride. That's all it will take. My wife thought it was the most awesome car ever until she rode in it. Too rough, windy, smelly, too many seatbelts, uncomfortable, etc. Now we regularly drive 2 cars to a family event or whatever. I arrive sweaty and smelly in the Cobra and she's perfumed in the Explorer. Win/win. That's fine, I didn't get it for her. Got it for ME. And guess how many folks want to go check out the really cool Explorer..... |
Hi, @ thanks for the responses. I'm looking forward to the process. Good ideas here. I think I'll build it then take my wife for a ride. :-) The test ride might ruin the deal... I'll keep an eye on this site for a while so I can make the best choice. Thanks again, Glen

Glen, now is a good time to be looking at a FFR. They just announced that they are offering 3 different body variants - 289 slab side, 289 FIA, and an "exact" copy of an original 427 cobra (I think CSX3025?). You might want to check out the Hurricane as well. You can "build" a Kirkham but they are a lot more money. Superformance is a roller, and more money. BDR is a roller priced a little less - shape a little different than the others. ERA is nice - but again, more money.
If you want the build check out FFR, Hurricane, and Shell Valley. Obviously I chose FFR and I wouldn't hesitate to build another. It's a solid car and there is a ton of support. Just be aware, you are building a car - not ordering a pizza. It's not a Lego set. There is another thread on here "Hugh news at Factory Five" or something to that extent. Check that for more details. |
Thanks, It's good to get FFR backup. I received their package the other day and I was very impressed. If there car is as professionally done as their ad package, it must be a good car and build. I'm still going to look the others over hard before I do anything, but realistically it'll be a couple of years yet. Hurricane is new to me, so I'll look them up.

Glen, you are in the same situation I am. I have been comparing the different makes as well, but will be a couple of years before I can start. Hurricane, Shell Valley, FFR, and Lonestar are the 4 kits that are at the top of my list. Each for their own reasons. I stated a thread on here asking for opinions on different kits and I got a lot of good information as well as direction where to look. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/all-cobra-talk/81891-what-kit-why.html. Similar experience to jdog's
My wife hated the car until she rode in it. I shamed her into riding in it by taking her girlfriends for rides who all came back wanting to go again. Her first ride was out to dinner at a hip resturant where we ate outside with the cobra 10' away. She said she never got so much attention in a car before. Everyone at the resturant clapped when I started it up to leave. Great feeling. :)

I am new to this game and will be taking del of my kit in a few weeks. I went throught the whole research thing as well. I chisse Antique and collectable in buffalo ( A & C Auto), real nice frame etc and the best body in the market(my option) Good luck |
Thanks for the link joe, good stuff there. I'll be taking a look at a Shell Valley that is close by. I can't believe the support for this car here at this site. There are some great folks in the Cobra community. The choice has become much less scary because of all your input.

Welcome to the forum. Like you I was impressed with the FFR pack and in meeting the gang at a few events there. It's a tuff decision. I'm a big fan of the FFR and the Backdraft which runs a well set up suspension package with BMW.
