EFI for a FE
Just wondering if anyone is using Dynatek's EFI that looks like the Weber stacks? If so, do you think its worth the 6 G's. I'm also interested in putting one on top of a 427 S.O. any thoughts?

I am going to dry to place a pic in here, but I am setting up my 427SO with TWM FI...I am hoping we will have it fired up here in the next week with the EFI but well see. I already dynoed the motor with a std manifold and carb so it will be interesting to see how she does in the car with this new set up.

I put a pic in my gallery if you want to see the set up.

that is true. My Roush 427r with carb, makes about 15 more HP than the EFI stack version.

What size are they?
Kramer, What size are they? I have the 58mm for my next motor. I want to see the linkage you use to hook them up to the gas pedal. TWM sells a cable and bracket. Was hoping for a rod setup instead of a cable. Good luck with the setup. MAKE SURE you have somebody that KNOW how to setup the setup with flow meters. ;) Make sure you run either wire screens or something likw the IG filters TWM sell them. I think you can make your own with a cardboard template. ;) Rick Lake

Top end only
ENTDOC Doc a weber style setup will make 10-25 HP and 8-15 ft. of tork in the midrange over a carb. There have been tests done by guys running webers and testing on dynos. Once the webers runout of air flow a carb will pass them by. Lemans GT car would have run webers if not for the gas milage and trying to use the KISS system. Keep It Simple Stupid. 48mm webers on a 427 SO motor, will perform sharper and make more power in midrange. After 6,100-6,300 rpm the party is over. No more air flow. Carb system is simplier and cheaper that a Weber setup. Not alot of guys can setup a weber setup either. You need a couple hundred dollars worth on chokes, jets, tubes, air meters, to get running good. Webers are more sensitive to a motor than a carb. I am going to the 58mm for my next motor, a 498 shelby motor. Rick Lake

Rick,
The throttle bodies are 58mm. I am working with a local guy that seems to know these systems very well so he is helping me set it up. I have seen his work and his attention to detail on a few other cars including a nice set up on a GT40. I have seen varios linkage setups and my contact is working to set up something that looks as good as it performs. I will send a pic hopefully next weekend. LT Cobra - I really wanted the weber look but quite a few folks talked me out of them and into the TWM set up. I suspect it will be at least $5K all in (with the electronics and proper set up). About the same amount I might have spent a proper weber set up with the right look I was going for in this car. Chuck, I pulled the valve covers off, then I took the throttle bodies off and had them powder coated together with the fins being taped off. I sure any powder coater could do the trick. For me I just wanted something a little different, something that looked competition like on the top of the motor. Kramer |
No Sure at the price LT
LT COBRA When I was looking last year they where $3,400.00 and over night went to $4,200.00 I got mine a the $4K mark from Al contruction on this site. You need to still get injectors, sensors for your ECU and dyno time for programming. I have been running FI since 99 with an old Speed-Pro system. Works good. Building 2nd motor with 58's, 498 cubes, and bigger torque cam.
I like the look of the TWM's and they are about 1/2 the price of a whole 58mm weber of Olberg assembly. RickL. |
The Dynatek system is a self tuning/learning system from what they claim. Not sure how that is accomplished without a mass air meter. The TWM is a speed density system that will need an experienced tuner which when it is all said and done may cost as much or more than a self tuning system. You might want ti look into a Massflo system with stack injection. They don't offer it but I heard they will work with you on special projects.

Lots of choices for FI. I think it comes down to who has the most user friendly system to live with day in and day out, combined with the looks and performance you want. We used Kinsler on the race car and it was dead reliable, but it was a strict race application and easy to make it run from 5000 to 7200 rpm.
This is Hilborns system: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/427_Ford.jpg |
I checked out the TWM site, looks like a nice setup, still have to purchase the efi system seperate from the intake and im sure everyones got their opinion on which one is the best. Of course buying it is only half the battle, I would still have to find someone who knows what they're doing to tune it. I know KC builds some great engines and does EFI work...anyone had him set up their system?
