Does your friend have a budget amount in mind? Does he want a finished car, small project or large project? Does he want the R model colors of white with blue stripes or is he open to other Shelby colors? Does he want a dead nuts copy or a loose/individualized interpretation of the actual R-model?
Check out the NorCal Shelby club website as well as the SF Bay Area Craigslist. There were a couple or a few listed in various states of completion.

Also, try www.collectorcartraderonline.com. They usually have several listed too.

Thx for the help. He wants as original as posible and would spend $500k for the real thing (not going to happen) or up to $100k for a dead on clone. I am just trying to help out so I can drive it :)

I'll check with one of the owners of the company that I work at. I know he has one similar to the one in the picture that he races and he has talked about selling it and his Superformance. One guy came up and said that he wanted to buy it to cruse around in and he would not sell it to him because he would ruin the car.

I could connect you with the real deal if he's interested. It's one of the most winningest 66 Shelby's in vintage racing! This car has great history and might be for sale. Let me know, Matt.

Give Jay Nordstrom in Dallas a call or send him an email at:

He had one that I have driven and considered that was pretty spot on.

For $100K, he could easily build one from a used '65-66 fastback (which are readily available in the low $20,000 range for one that's in good "driver" condition). He'd probably even have money left over for tires, a trailer, some fuel, and a few entry fees.
I'm building a '66 coupe vintage racer out of a partially restored car that I've owned for years, and I can tell you that I fully expect to have the car on the track for less than half that amount.
