Help: AC Ace VIN's
Can anyone confirm if the AC Ace (BEX*** cars specifically) have the VIN stamped in the same place as the CSX 2000 series?
Thanks. |
Tried to post this but it didn't look like it went through so I'll try again;
Aces used 3 different chassis plates to show the "vin" and all were different from the CSX cars. The numbers of the chassis were also stamped on the hood, trunk, and door hinges but did not include the BEX or AEX prefixes, ie they were the #s only. BTW, I am also in SB so feel free to call if you have more specific questions. Jay 562-2439 Day # |
Thanks, Jay. I will call you tomorrow. Correct me if I'm wrong, the BEX and AEX chassis were all sequential regardless of the letters, right?

You are correct that the AEX and BEX cars were interspersed and I think (speculating as I do not know for sure) the chassis were completed (except motor mounts) in sequential order and then the motors assigned and the AEX/BEX (or AE/BE depending on where the car was headed) also assigned. The one caveat I have found is, I am not sure what went on from approx #500 to #1000. I have seen a 1958 Ace with AEX458 and a 1959 with AEX 1075, but have never seen anything in between and since they only built around 600 Aces, those numbers must have not been used for Aces. Maybe they went to Acecas or Greyhounds.

Thanks for your help, Jay
