Whether I was getting a Shelby OR installing a motor in an SPF, I would use Gessford Machine (George Anderson) in Hastings, NE.

He is an authorized Shelby dealer if you decide to do that. For the SPF, he can arrange to have the car shipped to him, building and install a custom Ford motor, and ship it to you.

I have about 10K on one of his motors (a 520 cid) and couldn't be happier.

The additional money you need for the Shelby is a small percentage of the total purchase monies your are paying.

Don't get me wrong. The SPF is a nice car and nice replica of a Shelby Cobra.

The additional money gets you the Shelby Cobra.

Enough said.

The same guys at Dynamic that Maxom is talking to regarding the CSX 4000...

they are also running the cars on e-bay.

Tony Ripepi 10-16-2007 01:56 PM

Maxom,

Have you talked to Gary Patterson and the guys at Shelby American in Las Vegas?

Here is another way to look at the original question:

If you get the SPF at $15k less out the door drivable, then you can toss in a Serpent Express and take your new ride with you on a vacation to Florida with the change!

Just a thought.

Maxom,

Since you live in the Atlanta area you should consider the local Superformance dealer Starrformance up near Road Atlanta.

maxom 10-16-2007 04:37 PM

is it where you bought your car? What do you think of them?

TerrysSPF 10-16-2007 04:42 PM

"Starrformance" ??? -Cheesy name.

Isn't this the old McMichael Motorsports dealer? -What happened to them??

kayakjack 10-16-2007 06:41 PM

Maxom,

The dealership recently changed hands. It was McMichael Motorsports. It was recently sold to Mark Starr (hence Starrformance). I met Mark at their open house a couple of weeks ago. Nice guy. I wish him and the dealership well.

When I was doing my evaluation of the Cobra market a while back, Bill Baker at the dealership was kind enough to give me a test drive in a Superformance (Roush 550 hp - nice car!!). I ended up buying a used Superformance from a private owner (It is magnificent!!). Bill presented a very good impression, and under different circumstances I would not hesitate to buy from them. He is still there - saw him at the open house and at their display at Petit Lemans.

I am local - if I can help you - ask.

Finally I made up my mind after weeks of reading , talking and agonizing about this... 427 MKIII SPF 2624 is the one I bought, it's Winbledon White with blue stripes. I have small block 402 Roush engine, TKO 600 transmission, MDS, kill switch... I'm very satisfied with my choice and I can't wait to get it next week. I'll post some pictures later on.
I wanted to thank everyone on this forum who answered a lot of my questions via phone or email. This made my research so much better.
I'll look forward sharing more thoughts about the Cobras!!

Sounds like a nice car. I like your choice of color. I'd love to see pics, I have not seen another Cobra with the same colors as mine.

maxom 10-26-2007 08:17 PM

I haven't seen that many Winbledon white as well. I wanted something a little different.
By the way your CSX looks great!

Roger Vincent 10-26-2007 08:50 PM

I like your choice!

Max,

I am very happy with my SPF 2080. It was a professional install and engine build, and I don't plan on ever selling it. So, resale was not a big factor for me, and two years ago, there was a long line of folks waiting for the CSX 4000 series cars. I predict you will thoroughly enjoy your SPF, congratulations! Now you need to join SCOF. There is a lot of great tech info about your car and a lot of good folks in the club there as well.
