how often do those exposed radiators take a hit
just wondering ,there is a product by speedway ..nomex honeycomb that the circle trackers use . Might be something to look into?

I made mine out of a door-protector screen I picked up at Lowe's. It is expanded aluminum. I made the frame with aluminum strap and the spacers from the aluminum channel they sell for the edges of plywood. It attaches with velcro. Pictures in my gallery

Wow...Jim...VERY similar construction, only difference is I used stainless 1/4" mesh, but looks SO alike...GREAT MINDS????

Hey jim nice work on the pedals , do they give you more room now ? someone told me that on the lone star forum they make a fibreglass panel you glass in to get more room as well? Mark

Yes, they are quite similar in concept and execution, but like most everything on your car, yours is lots shinier! :D

They work great. After the first couple of drives I haven't thought about pedal locations at all. It's just natural. Before I modified the pedals my size 13s tended to either get both pedals when clutching or go between the throttle and brake when braking.
I think the modification they were discussing involved cutting out the side of the foot box to increase the width. With the pedals moved I don't have a problem with the width. I'm considering a dead-pedal which will likely need to go outside the foot well.

yeah thats what i have to do , driving with 13s' in those funny driving shoes with shorts could cause problems .

About twice during the summer I use a brush to remove the bugs and follow with a small flat screwdriver to strighten the fins. Decided against a screen as it might hinder air flow....

That's all I've ever done. Aluminum radiator and 50,000+ miles and never taken a major hit. My radiator sits at about a 55 degree angle (FFR). Might be a good idea if you're running on the track though. |

Do what I did. I took a 26 inch bicycle tube, inflated it just enough to give it shape. I then wrapped a piece of plastic window screen around it and stapled it in place. Now I have a radiator screen that goes in and out of service within seconds. The added benefit is that it won't scratch anything. The air in the tube holds it in place, at least in my SPF.

In my first Cobra, here's what happened to me. I think this risk is just another small one you take as an owner of a car like this. This thing came skipping across several lanes at a high rate of speed (I think a truck ran it over and it squeezed out from under his tire). I tried slowing down quickly (no room ahead of me), but no luck. I had my racing screen on too, so I had nice visions of this boulder removing my head. :)
By the way, this picture doesn't do the rock justice for size and weight. I actually have it on my desk at work...It's a heavy sucker! You can see where it hit the oil cooler first and then put some big ass holes in the raidiator. Tow truck picked me up.

I found (actually my dog found it) a deceased bird in mine. Luckily no Big rocks so far. That bird never knew what hit him. I didn't see him either.

Brent thats a boulder! I once had a crow fly in my window at speed in a turn , all i saw was black feathers and dollar signs .
