Cobra owners in Western New York?
I was wondering if there were many Cobra owners in the Buffalo/Niagara region. I'm building a B&B right now and it would be great to meet some local Cobra owners.

Don't know anyone personally up North, but we have a couple of CC members up that way. Mike Duell (Turn Ten Racing) is in Rochester, I believe - his CC name is "mj duell".
I am in Breesport, NY just south of Seneca Lake, and own a Superformance MKIII (pretty much a daily driver for 6 years). How far along are you in your build? The photos in your gallery look good! Jim |
Hey Jim,
I haven't added any photos in a while. I've got the chassis pretty well done minus the engine now. I picked up a 1969 351W from a guy in Philly that's complete and ready to drop in and I got a Tremec TKO from a guy in Schenectady 2 weeks ago. Today, I'm assembling my new cherry picker and finally get to get moving again on my project. :) I have met one guy with an A&C that lives on Grand Island... but that's it so far. What ever happened to the Upstate Cobra Club? Mike |
I think we need a spring 08 Upstate rally. There are quite a few cobras in the Syracuse & Rochester area. Maybe a Niagara casino run?

The Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, NY is awesome! Then there's Casino Niagara and The Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I'm sure any one of them would gladly accommodate a Cobra Run.

Mike,
Not sure about the Upstate Cobra Club (haven't heard of it that I can remember....), but I got a letter from The Shelby Mustang Club of Rochester a couple of weeks ago. They haven't had any club activity for more than 2 years, and are looking to either find new leadership to try and go forward again with activities, or disband.... I think Mike Duell is up that way (he may be who you are thinking of in Grand Island). He did build an A&C, and now has Turn Ten Racing. Who else is in upstate NY??? Jim |
Upstate Cobra Club
Did a search for Upstate Cobra Club and came up with this website..
http://www.upstatecobras.net/home/ Have to look into this!!! Jim |
In the Buffalo/Niagara area we have ONE original 289 ( I have the CSX number somewhere, I drove it back from Rochester) and several replicas (Saw a FFR in Batavia, know of two or three other replicas around) so there ARE some around. Mikey sold his 427 replica a few years back so that's gone.

Hi all. I live in upstate NY, not far from Jim in Horseheads. Actually, I think I have seen Jim's Cobra a few times, twice at Kent Brown Toyota (perhaps Jim works there?) and once at Applebee's in Big Flats. I ordered a Backdraft Racing Cobra a few weeks ago to be delivered in Feb. or March. A friend is putting the drivetrain in when it gets here - a 351 stroked to 392 with 430HP - and I hope to have the registration/title process completed sometime in late March/April so I can get it on the road in late April or early May. I would be interested in a Cobra run if anyone gets one going. I am a gambler (leaving Fri. for Vegas for 4 days) so would enjoy a trip to one of the casinos in our area (any mentioned in Niagara Falls or Syracuse, Salamanca, etc.) or anywhere not more than a few hours away so please let me know if you get something going. I think it would be quite a thrill to have several Cobras going down the highway together.

dmorse,
Glad to hear that we have another Cobra coming to the area (hope it's Blue/White). "Officer, that must have been the OTHER Blue Cobra....." That's my SPF you see at Kent Brown Toyota and Applebee's. I drive the SPF to work most days, year round (the hardtop is on right now). Stop by at the dealership some day for a visit! I am the Service & Parts Director there, and if you need help, I can help guide you through the NYS custom registration process. Hope to get some track time at Watkins Glen next year. Hopefully you can meet us there. Welcome to the Club. Jim Kellogg Breesport, NY |
You won't have to worry about another Blue one with the Backdraft that Don ordered :)
|
Don or Jay,
Don't keep us in suspense, what color is it gonna be??? Looking around your website, Jay, I see a few different grey and silver with different stripe combinations. They all look nice, and a few incoming models are marked "sold" ... Cmon... let's see some photos :) Jim |
I will stop to see you Jim, thanks for the invite. I got the paperwork from DMV in advance so I would know the procedures to follow. I also talked to a really nice guy at DMV (I know that sounds contradictory - a nice guy at DMV) and he indicated I shouldn't have any problems getting a registration/title. My main concern is getting someone to trailer it to the inspection site but I imagine I can get Gary's or someone similar to do the job. What event do you enter at Watkins? I attended the Audi two day driving school a few times when I had an R32 (I sold the R32 to get some of the $ for the Cobra) and had an absolute blast so I would be very much interested in going back with the Cobra. I can't drive the Cobra at the Audi event because they have a broomstick rule in effect for the roll bar - I could have gotten a modified roll bar but wanted to stick to the original as much as possible (except for the color). As Jay indicated, you won't be able to use the other Blue and White excuse. Sorry. For now I will tell you it WON'T be lime green. I look forward to meeting you.

I just posted and noted your color request. As noted, it is not an original color. I went to the Vette show at the Arnot Mall a few weeks ago and fell in love with Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat so that is the color I requested. It will have the lighter red stripes (Jay calls them ghost stripes). Not sure how it will look on the Cobra but it sure is awesome on the Vette. I have two pictures of a Candy Apple Red Cobra that was at Carlise last summer that has the ghost stripes and will bring them with me when I stop to see you. It was a color Corvette offered for a short time only on the 2007 model and it was also a $750 option as it is a three stage process. Jay has indicated BDR will not charge extra so that is another bonus. If interested, I have found a few Vettes in this color on the ebaymotors web site. Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi guys, there are at least five in the Rochester area I'm aware of. two factory fives, an A&C, a Back Draft racing one, plus Turns Ten racing I saw in Fairport once. Hopefully mine will be done next summer so you can add another A&C to that list soon...
