Hi tcrist,

I have used the next softwares:
SolidWorks
AutoCAD
LightWave.

I love SolidWorks because it gives me a lot of engineering help, like stress calculations etc.
It works perfect in conjunction with AutoCAD.

For the nice shots with perfect looking Cobra, LightWave is the one. But it doesn't have any engineering capabilities, just the show.

SolidWorks is awsome. We just upgraded to SolidWorks 2008. We only use the basic SolidWorks. We use it mainly for the Sheet Metal option. We have no need for the rest of the options yet. I have been thinking about drawing up my Cobra in SolidWorks. I just do not have the time.

Putting you Cobra in SW is a matter of time and lost of measurements.
You just start with the chassis and load it bit by bit.
You can lay-down for a wile and you come back with new parts.

My engine in SW was made in 24 hours and once you get the trick you will get enthusiasm to go further.
The best is to use AutoCAD as a base of the build because it goes faster to make the sketch in AutoCAD.
As an example, the engine build was made with several sketch, you make the AutoCAD section shape of the engine and heads and then you extrude it in SW.

I hope this stimulate you to work with it, you will love it!

Yes it is a DAX chassis and body from 1986, but the tunnel section (reinforcing) is my implementation.
The new DAX type MK4 have also some reinforcement's. The DeDion types have a total different suspensions, front and rear.

I did some stress calculations with SolidWorks and this was the best result that fits my Cobra, you know space it restricted.
Next summer I will test it on the track but I am pretty confident of the results.

The clutch, this one of the difficult areas to solve in our cars.
At the drawings section and other areas you can see my components and some drawings, but as you have notice those are for the Chevy.

Right now I am pretty please with the results because I get only 17Kg force at the pedal with a pedal travel of 140 mm.
Probably you will need to use the tab "Type 2" (Ford setup)

I have update the spread sheet with the Inches and Pounds units (ASE units?), so you can download from my site and use the right tab.
