What are you using for rear rollbar tube grommet?
I just installed my rear rollbar tube. I tried using a slit fuel line slit lengthwise around the unfinished oblong hole, but I don't like the way it looks. It's too heavy and bulky looking. I don't want to just leave it untrimmed. Is there any light thin "U" channel type stuff any of you have used and can recommend? I've seen the stainless and/or aluminum and rubber type grommets that are sold that mount above the rear deck of the car and I don't want to go that way. I'd like something rubber that wold be used similar to the slit fuel hose method, just less bulky and neater looking.

Doug,
Via Cobra Restorers: For strut opening, use split vacuum hose and knife edge body. I use nothing as the hole is clean and neat anyway. You are repainting so why not edge and smooth. The paint will create a nice rolled edge look and stay with the theme of these cars "Utilitarian". http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._CSX3003-3.JPG Rubbers are overated anyway! http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IM0002721.JPG |
I like the look of a clean edge and no rubber. Unfortunately the hole turned out to be just a bit larger than I wanted. It's not bad at all, but is a bit larger than yours. Also, for reasons I don't understand, the paint chipped a bit around the edge. I was real careful with it, made sure I used a fine tooth hole saw from the top, etc, but it still chipped up a bit.
Mike, the ones from Finishline mount on top of the deck, not was I was looking for. Thanks for the info, though - I appreciate it. |
Go to the link below and type in "Edging", or go to page 3655 for Edge Trim. They have a lot of other types of trim also.

I've also used them but only when someone had done the hole before me and I needed a big cover up. That back one is a trick with them isn't it?

Yes, a trick to be sure. Catching enough meat for the srews and working with an oblong hole.....Someone else had made them too big, so that's the route I went. Looks like my pic didn't come out. It's in my gallery if someone needs to see it.

Thin wall radiator overflow tubing (plain rubber, non re-enforced) works very well. Slit it in a straight line.
