Goodyears in da house
Hey I just wanted to comment and say thanks for all the advice and opinions regarding my choice in new tires. I pulled the trigger and opted for the Goodyear Big letter tires. Tom at Roger Krouse Racing came through and had them at my door in two days. Matt at Big Brand Tire had them mounted in no time. They look great with the natural rugged patina and perform as described. Although I haven't had much chance to drive with them because it's been raining the last few days. Can't wait till it's sunny again.

I am getting ready to order my second set and even though they do "HUNT" for the first mile or so I like the looks etc. They $1000.00 kind of chokes me up but I am sure they will last for at least 5000 miles. :)

I have another set of wheels with the billboards mounted on them, in addition to a set of Avid S/T's. After I first put the billboards on the car, I actually pulled over a block from the house thinking one of the tires HAD to be flat. It wasn't, and the tires smoothed out within a mile, but I realized that these tires do behave differently when cold. For one thing, they WILL flat spot if you don't drive the car often -- again, goes away quickly. Compared to the Avids, the billboards hook up a lot better. They pick up more rocks, too. I will post pics as soon as the sun comes out. The car in the garage won't do the tires any justice although I drool a little everytime I go out there and see them. I had to raise the rear end 1/2" for some extra clearence, the top of the outside edge of the wheel well to the ground is 27". These tire sidewalls bulge outward a lot more than the BFG TA's I had and there were some rubbing issues on the inside of the rear. The fronts seem fine with room to spare. My first visual impression was that they made the longer wheel stance of the CR shorten up a bit. I like the look of the old school tread pattern vs. the flaming contemporary style. Now I just need some dry pavement. I will post pics asap. Tires, shipping and mounting came to about $1200.00.

Ok, I have several new pics in my gallery showing the new tires. You can compare the looks of the BFG TA's and the new GY BB's. I was able to go for a nice ride yesterday between storms. It was beautiful out, not cold, and the air was clean. Snow level was down to 2200 feet and the local mountains were covered. Quite scenic. About 5:00pm it was pouring down rain again.
The tires had severed flat spots at initial take off. Smoothed out about 5 miles later. The car was definetly shaking until then. At slow street speeds they were squirly. Hunting as others have said. I have to say at this point they do feel much better at speed and especially nice while cornering at speed, and seemed stable when going from dry to a wet spot on the pavement. The BFG's I had did not react very steady doing the dry to wet transition. But when I was going slow the GY's squirlyness make me wonder if they were the best choice for me. They do pick up a lot of sand and gravel. They look awsome and really give the car some edge. There is a Cobra get together next Sat. weather permitting, and I look forward to show and tell.
