anyone used an 03-04 must. cobra drivetrain
complete drivetrain(supercharged 4.6, 6speed and IRS) in there cobra??
was wondering how well the charger would clear? if so anyone got any pics ? |
Check out the factory five forums, a few guys over there have done them. The Mark III FFR roadster accepts the modern 4.6 drivetrains.

I believe the newer Superformance chassis will work also.

Curious why use the complete 03-04 drivetrain? I owned a 2004 SVT Cobra w/ CAI / Magnaflow exhaust. Awesome engine that was underrated by Ford, the typical dyno of a factory config was 365 RWHP. That is what mine was ..after the CAI/Magnaflow ..457 BHP, 398 RWHP. Can't argue the engine but why the 6-spd transmission and the SVT IRS? The transmission was geared too high for the SVT (w/ 3.54 Rear end). I never used 6th ..which cruised at minimum of 65 mph (and not fun). 5th was good, but all of the fun was in 2nd-4th. 1st was difficult to control wheel hop w/ SVT IRS and stock 275 tires. In a Cobra ...IMO ...the transmission is too much ...and the Ford IRS is a compromise. IMO. Good luck with the project, just wanted to mention my experience w/ the transmission and SVT IRS. W/ that said ...if I had the $ ...I would have kept the '04 SVT ...AWESOME in a straight line....loved the whine of the supercharger :)

I am finishing one up in an SPF. The engine is the basic terminator with some modifications for strength, some for safety but also some for power. You can see a few of my initial build pictures in my gallery. I hope to finish up in the next month or so and post a bunch of final assy type photos. If you do it I think you will be quite pleased. Be sure to check out Sergio's Cobra4Me site where he documents his build. Quite impressive! BTW you don't need to spend a lot of money porting heads and buying cams and such for these engines. The blowers change everything. A Whipple or KB with the stock top pulley and an 8" lower is good for about 600 - 630 HP with great street manners and Massey Fergusson Tractor like low speed torque. With the blower it is not hard to get 500+ lbs-ft of torque at 2000 rpm or lower. The closer you look, the more I think you will like the combination. Just as an aside the visual WOW factor when you lift the hood is massive. We have not had an engine that fills up the engine compartment the way this one does since the 427 SOHC, and they are light. My complete engine is right at 400 lbs. Ed |
I'm using a naturally assperated 4.6 mach 1 motor with a carb set up
visually the motor looks great in the engine bay of these cars power wise just look at the new kit car where they test a bone stock 03 mach 1 in a factory 5 the #'s are impressive 0-60 times in the mid 3's so to run a S/C terminiator is just rediculus with the low end torque these motors produce Bobby |
While you are at it, switch out that eaton blower for a Kenne Bell or a whipple. You will not be sorry :)
