Chappie...hmmmm...again, dealing with personal as well as institutional issues is one of the main purposes of interest-based bargaining. It is primarily used in labor relations and international diplomacy...both of which are breeding grounds of egocentric positioning.
It is NOT simple confer and compromise mediation which most lawyers are familiar with. While some litigation-mediators have adopted some of its protocols, most have little idea of how it works in multi-demensional disputes. Interest-based bargaining became a buzz word of sorts at seminars during the last several years...folks throw it out there to impress.
We've been using it in my world for several decades. It works between heads of state and business owners and union leaders...neither pairing is known to be subtle in their remarks.
