427 cu in motor long block??
I have a late '60s 427 Ford motor. What is the value of such a motor? I've been told about $2000.00 as is, not rebuilt, but a good motor. Any idea? Thanks.
I also have a 460 of about the ssame years. Any idea on this one too??? |
The 427 might be fairly valuable. Not enough information though. Side or center oiler? How complete? Condition? etc......

2k is about right, do you take paypal?:)

I don't know much about FE's but a 60's side oiler that has not been re-bored is going to be worth much more than $2000 assuming that it is in reasonable condition.

It could be less too.. if it's one on the non-crossbolted, press in freeze plug 427 irrigation motors that are out there.
which leads to the next two questions.. 1. cross bolted?? 2. screw in freeze plugs. Dave |
Yes I do!

Motor's information update...
I pulled the motors out of their catacombs yesterday and cleaned them up. I took pictures of them and the casting numbers. If you can look at these and get me more feedback on them I would be greateful!
Check this link: http://www.classiccoachworksrs.com/motorsforsale.htm Thanks all. |

...I just had a feeling;) Everyone seems to have a 427 ford in their garage these days. 400M = low budget boat anchor.

The block is a 1977 block and judging from the "hump" in the rear of the lifter valley, it looks like a 460 block, the heads are 1973 heads...they were used on the 460's and are the low compression/low perfomance heads........I have bought complete motors like this one running for 200 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!! mainly for the 460 block, the heads get piled up with other scrap iron and sold to the junk man..........
Correction; the first block (red) in the photos is a 400 block, good for sinking objects in the lake or pond........the blue block in the lower photos is a 460 block, block is worth something, heads are not.........those heads should go with the 400 block in the lake, will hold down quite a few christmas trees, makes great fish cover for the following year........... Engine information...
Thanks for the information. This is why I posted on here as you are all Ford Fans! I am a Jaguar Fan! I have these motors that a client left here with his car a few years ago and wanted to sell them. So any good info as to the correct info on these engines is appreciated. I was only going by what I was told these were.
You're giving me info on the big blocks so far, anything on the 289??? How much could I get for the 460 block without the heads??? |
Jag;
Around my parts a 460 block with the crank and rods/pistons will fetch on a good day about 200 bucks, and that's only cause mud-truck racing is the big rage around here now and everyone is looking for 460 and 454 blocks.............. Now, the old DOVE heads and CJ and SCJ heads bring premium $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$............... David |
