electrical problem
I tried to restart my car after a drive, fan was on. I got a click and then the car went dead. No lights, etc. When I flip the fan switch it makes a buzzing or shorting sound in the fuse box. None of the fuses are blown.
If the ignitionis in the on position the buzz noise does not happen when I hit the fan switch.
All connections are good, car has 2500 miles on it. 14 volts at battery and 14 at the solenoid.
Any thoughts?

First place to start is clean the battery cables.

Try swapping out the battery, sometimes a battery can have a surface voltage of 14 volts, but not enough amps. If it is not the battery, then start with your panel. Good luck.

How old is (are) the battery(ies). A cell can go dead instantly even with a virtually new battery. Sealed or caps with electrolyte? I don't know what tests you can make at home, but certainly a good repair shop can tell you if you have a dead cell or cells. Sometimes they'll be good for several months or even a year then die instantly. Has the car sat for any length of time without starting? My new batteries' info sheets informed me that they need to achieve at least 110% charging after each start to keep the charge at optimum.
I had 13.8v across my two batteries and they both had a deal cell each. They were only 20 months old. Prevented the MSD ignition from seeing the correct voltage while cranking. And it cranked fine. Just wouldn't start.
Agree to first check for clean cable connections, then have the battery checked that it's taking a charge and then holding it. Best of luck.

Will your fan normally work without the ignition in the on position? Are the post in the battery removable, if so remove and clean. You might replace with an anti-oxident compound like Nolox or Penetrox, they prevent oxidation on electrical connections of aluminum and copper or aluminum with copper. Check all grounds and their connections.

Check your main feed from the baterry to the back/side of the fuse box. It sounds like you might have a bad connection there.

Also, when checking grounds, check the battery ground as well. That one is overlooked commonly as most people don't think to check it. The buzzing/shorting sound could be a bad connection at the fuse box. Check the connections there to be sure everything is getting good contact. If you have a multimeter, check the resistance across the fuses as well. Rarely, but I have seen the barrel fuses blow or break from vibration in the caps. You can't tell by looking through the glass.

You may have burned a fusable link supplying power to the fuse panel.

I had the battery checked, its OK. Turned out to be a bad ground. I converted the small eye terminal to a regular (large) battery termainal. That is where the ground was bad.
