Thick felt between body and frame
I'm about to take the body off my car for paint, and noticed that there is a thick jute or felt like material installed between the body and frame to keep squeaks and things like that to a minimum. It looks fairly old and beat up and I'd like to replace it. Does anyone know what it's called and where I can get it? Is there something better I can use for this purpose? Thanks.

May I jump in? Built a lot of Cobras and restored quite a few Contemporary's. Here is a link to "Soft Seal" who makes about any welting, body seals you can think of. This is what CR's uses on their bodys and after 20 yuears I have yet had to replace any. Jockey...let me add one last comment perhaps. I have no idea about the frame you have and what will or will not work, since I built a Lonestar. The frame on the Lonestar is 2" x 4" box frame and I covered every one of the 2" upper surfaces in hard neoprene rubber strip 2" x 1/4". Works perfectly and NO rattles at all. The one downside is since I used fairly hard rubber, the body sits about 3/16" higher than without it.
Go check out the picture in my photo gallery about 'leaving the track'. If you blow it up you can just about see the rubber stripping on top of the frame girders. Glyn |
