Top / tonneau cover tabs
I have no plan on using a top or a tonneau cover. The car is going in for paint, and currently has all the attachment points running around the rear of the cockpit for the top or cover, as well as a bunch of snaps on the cowl in front of the cockpit behind the windshield. I can't decide if I want to leave these holes drilled and reinstall them after the car is painted even though I won't be using them, or fill in the holes and leave them off. Any thoughts, ideas? Originality aspects?

The Cobra LOOKS much cleaner without all the raised attachment tabs. The Cobra is also a LOT easier to clean and polish without the tabs. All it takes is one PAINFUL bending of the fingernail back as you wash/polish the Cobra, and you will get the point.
My Cobra has the tabs; I infrequently use the top or tonneau cover, and I could easily have lived without the tabs. The top is NOT watertight...there is still water that gets inside the car while driving in a rainstorm. I have driven a few times in the rain without the top, and did get wet. NOT soaking wet, but wet just the same. I would imagine you could do best by filling in the holes and have the Cobra painted without them. You can always go back later, after the Cobra is painted, drill the holes and install the tabs. IF you decide you want the tabs. |
Doug...I use the tonneau so there useful to me, but I think Cobra's look much cleaner without them....look at just about any kirkham...If I do ever get my dream Kirkham it will not have the snaps.

I use my top infrequently, but I use it. I had my car repainted and the painter filled in all the holes without my say so. I reinstalled some ,not all the studs and have used my top like that. Trouble is ,is that after 10 years the filler in the holes has shrunk so that if you look real carefully you can see where the old studs were. So if you do fill them make sure it's with resin and not Bondo!!
