AN Fittings Leaking
My oil cooler uses AN fittings going into pipe thread fittings. No matter how firm I tighten it, oil still dribbles out. I'm considering using pipe tape or other thread filler or something. Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Thanks, Ron |
Is the fitting leaking in the adapter going to the cooler or on the JIC fitting side?

AN Fittings Leaking
It seems to be leaking where the adaptor is going into the pipe threads of the oil cooler.

I've had leaks through liquid thread sealant-teflon tape works much better.

If it is leaking at only one fitting,it is a coinsident---if it is leaking at both fittings you probably are using fittings with the wrong kind of threads---tapered pipe, str pipe, British, and/or straight AN.

Thread tape could work fine there, but I am kinda with Jerry.
You may have a straight AN fitting that is meant to be fit with a o-ring. They will screw into pipe threads and leak. Scott S |
If you have the right fittings I suggest teflon paste instead of the tape.

Thanks for the input. I did go with the teflon paste instead of tape, with the fear that small pieces of tape could break off into the oil. I'll check tomorrow to see if it leaks.
Thanks again, Ron |
I had the same problem...used Teflon tape...worked PERFECTLY!

Look at the tapered face on the nipple, for a perfect seal snug the nut down and gently twist the tube back and forth. Then disassemble, there should be a scribed line completely around on the tapered face. Any irregularities are potential leakage spots.
