Doug: you had to say the magic word, "Birdcage", now you've got Luigi all rattled. he's shaking so bad you would think he's got buck fever! Was this design exercise created in Modena or Kenosha? He's having a hard time containing himself until Jamo's imposed hiatus is over. Luigi said he would throw in a Westclox Big Ben autographed by CS!

Oh, you had to mention the Pacer. "Back in the day", my dad had a sweet '71 Firebird, and I was about 6 months out from getting my driver's license. He went and traded that Firebird in on a brand new light blue/white Pacer.

The horror......

bret a ewing 04-02-2008 07:34 AM

Was this a Levi's edition?

Dangerous Doug 04-02-2008 09:28 AM

OMG: The Levi's edition AMC Pacer... I have a sick feeling that I actually recall seeing an advertisement for one 25 years ago... What were they thinking?

Top bid is $3M. Sorry, reserve is $22M (44x$500k). The deal is off, but I'm keeping the deposits, but please, take the wives back!

Dangerous Doug 04-02-2008 09:30 AM

Footnote: ALL AMC Pacers were "birdcage". I mean, just look at one.

Uhhh........more fishtank than birdcage.

To late. My wife is on her way.

Good luck.

Almost forgot. Her 25th wedding anniversary is the 16th of this month. Don't forget to get her something. She didn't like the new lawn mower I gave her.

Dangerous Doug 04-02-2008 11:25 AM

Does the lawn mower come with her?

If that's all it's going to cost me, then I will crate it up tonight.:D

Dangerous Doug 04-02-2008 12:47 PM

Uh, the wife or the lawnmower?

She's trained to push it, right?

Hello,

I'd like to introduce myself. I wanted to tell you all I am the newest Shelby Gremlin Replica Authorized Dealer. No, it's not an original, but it is a real Shelby Gremlin, so you can attach whatever importance you want to that claim. These beautiful recreations of the original are the most authentic you will find on the market. And they're authorized!

Order now, the backlog is filling up fast!

Sorry ... I have the official Shelby Registry, and the Shelby Gremlins were so top secret, there were NONE manufactured.

One the other hand, I have exclusive sales for all Carroll Shelby inspired farm implements. Here is the newest version with Elenor sitting on the rear end to offset the nearly 4 G's generated in a curve.

Paul F 04-02-2008 10:18 PM

That is true. None of the originals were manufactured, which makes these authorized continuation SGs just that much more valuable.

Excaliber 04-02-2008 10:45 PM

So whats the connection with Elvis and this car?

:D

COBRANIP 04-03-2008 12:02 AM

I had a Shelby AMC-390 Gremlin right out of High School. But mine was a SPECIAL Limited Edition with a 427 (some secret deal Shelby American pulled off with Ford). Very, very, very, very, very, as in EXTREEEEEMLY rare. Well then the oil embargo of '74 came along and you know what that did to the muscle car market. Now whenever I see one sell for $millions$ on Barrett Jackson I just cry.

aks801 04-03-2008 07:09 AM

For all you serious AMC-heads out there:

I know a guy who used to work in distribution for AMC way back when. In fact, he currently drives a pristine Matador. Anyway, he has found tucked away in a warehouse, some unibody shells for 9 AMC-390 Gremlins. Yep, you guessed it: these will be built out and marketed as "continuation" Shelby Gremlins! All authorized AMC dealers (see Paul F, and others) will have a chance to retail one or more of these cars on a lottery basis.

By the way, for some great driving footage of the Pacer-wagon, watch the "Wayne's World" movie. It's almost as good as Bullitt....

Dangerous Doug 04-03-2008 09:24 AM

Some Shelby-AMC trivia for you:

That Shelby-AMC 454 "birdcage" Pacer in "Wayne' World" is actually VIN CSX-WTADOG01---the first of the vintage. Once owned by Elvis Presley (Elvis hand-painted those infamous flames on the car), this car goes up for auction in Monterey this August. Expect bidding to top tens of millions of dollars. This will undoubtedly be the auction event of the year for the Monterey Hysterics Weekend. I hear Peter Brock will be there to testify to it's authenticity.

powerslide 04-03-2008 11:06 AM

As fate would have it, I was born and raised in Kenosha. And in a brief moment of insanity I worked on the AMC production line for two weeks(that's all I could stand!). When the noon lunch whistle would sound all the line workers would dash across 52nd Street (a main arterial that paralelled the factory for six blocks), in the middle of traffic, to all the taverns that lined the other side of the street, opposite the factory. Lots of beer and free sandwiches. So the moral of the story is don't buy a Gremlin or Pacer made after lunch! The workers were more lubricated than the cars!
