ENTDOC, good point, the question WAS about a CSX purchase.

I got caught up in the mob carrying torches and pitch forks and assembling in the parking lot, my bad. OK, nothing to see here folks, ya'll get in your Kirkhams and please disburse quietly.

True! My apologies as well for not staying on topic, especially since I'm the one who started it!

In reference to aluminum vs fiberglass: Aluminum dents, fiberglass chips/breaks. That said, there's 'nothing' like aluminum! It's just beautiful!!

I like the little dings and dents. They add character.

Your money - Alum.

My money - Glass.

They already have. I got to see one of them at Hillbank before the owner picked it up.

mhacars 04-07-2008 04:59 PM

I wonder what the CSX number of it was.

SP01715 04-07-2008 05:33 PM

Don't know the CSX# but it was painted a light silver (they said it was a Mercedes color special ordered).

GUNNAR 04-07-2008 06:11 PM

If it was a couple of months ago, that could have been mine. I didn't order it from Hillbank, but Shelby kept telling me it was in Irvine. If it was, it is Mercedes Brillant Silver and it is CSX4400. It took about a year and a half from order to delivery.

Excaliber 04-07-2008 06:36 PM

Well that beat jdog, who waited about 2 years for his.

I was thinking the same thing ENTDOC. After all, the question was about a CSX purchase.
However, the purchaser thought the price for an alum CSX was only 20K more than the glass car. At 115K for a alum CSX, Bob might like to know he has other options in the alum Cobra market, and bringing up Kirkham might be helpfull, and/or, even appreciated.

But of course, if Shelby already has a deposit from him, he ain't ever gonna get that back! :D

If your budget allows, no doubt about it, get the aluminum Shelby. It is the brass ring and the stuff the originals were made out of. End of story. In the long run you will be glad you went for the aluminum. No matter what others who don't have one say there is definitely a difference in the way the car is perceived and received by the public too when they know it is an aluminum bodied Shelby Cobra and not "fiberglass". There just is. Period. If that means anything to you.

I went through the same decision process and even had a deposit on a glass CSX and the opprotunity came by for CSX 4206 which is aluminum. At that time the price difference was $18,000.00. Still a nice chuck of change. I finally decided on the aluminum Shelby and never regretted it and now very glad I bought it.

In the future I think it will be worth more and will certainly be more desirable. IMHO.

Yes, it can and does ding if you are not careful. I have had a ding or two in the 7 years of ownership, but as someone noted a call to the Dent Wizzard and its all gone!

Paul F 04-09-2008 01:47 PM

No question. Aluminum. None of the other factors matter. Care, repair, resale value.... If you can afford it, buy aluminum. It's the coolest. It's the right thing to do. If you don't like bare aluminum, paint it.

I suppose if you plan to race it, there are some factors worth considering, and I don't know what they are. But if its a street car, get aluminum.

Excaliber 04-09-2008 02:13 PM

It really is worth a mention TerrySPF, the Kirkham option. One needs to consider the varied options to get a better picture of the market over all.

Go ERA!

It was probably your car. They had it roped off and had a sign on it that said "aluminum don't touch". Very nice car...

ENTDOC 04-09-2008 03:15 PM

Terry, I have to believe he was aware of the Kirkham option before posting. Regardless, you and I both know where the Kirkham/ CSX discussion would lead and it really is not germane to his question. Perhaps a PM would suffice in such a case.

TerrysSPF 04-13-2008 07:45 PM

ENTDOC: Unfortunately we don't know WHAT Bob knows or doesn't know, because we haven't heard squat from him since his initial post starting this thread.
I agree, one would think that Bob would be aware of the Kirkham's IF he has done his homework, but then again, if he thought alum CSX cars were only 20K more than the glass cars, who knows what other information / misinformation he may or may not have.

I just wanted to say that I thought it was worth a mention. -Not trying to start a CSX - Kirkham battle.
