427SB Gauges: Running information

A newbie question: I have a 427SB that i have just got running. it seems that everything is reading correctly except the oil temp. it doesn't move unless i push it and then let it sit. initially i thought it was not working. The others read:
Oil press: 40 C
Water: 85 C

Any suggestions?

...do you have an oil cooler?

Yes I have an oil cooler. And yes PSI for oil pressure. Sorry

Probably nothing wrong. Block off the air flow through the oil cooler and see what happens. If the temperature still doesn't budge, test your gauge.

my concern is that i've read it is necessary to have the oil temp high enough to boil off any water in the lines. Should i not be worried. thanks

Streetsnake: You said C for the oil pressure and water temp: are your gauges reading in Celsius? That's 105 degrees on the oil and 185 degrees on the water, if my swamp math is correct.

Oil temp: 60 (hasn't moved) it doesn't move unless I drive it hard and then sit idleing
Water temp: 85 C
Oil pressure: 40 psi (warmed up

Yes my gauges are in celsius Thanks

My water and oil temp readings track each other thru the temp range, which seems to make sense since they are both fuilds flowing thru the same engine.
Probably try replacing the guage or sending unit.

Street:
It's a good idea to have your oil temp close to the 200 range to outgas contaminants. Try running an oil cooler thermostat if you're concerned that the temp is too low. There are several available that take a minimum of plumbing modifications. You should be able to find them at either Jeg's or Summit just for starters.
