????? Fuel vent on gas tank
I noticed that I am gettng a fuel smell coming from my garage when the Cobra is at rest. I am thinking that I am getting my fuel smell from the fuel vent hose off the back of the gas tank which is vent into the atmoshere behind the rear tire.
I know on the factor cars GM/Ford they use to use a charcoal canister for this reason (I think).
Do you guys vent your fuel system simular to mine or are you using some sort of filter for the smell? If so what are you doing

I will actually get some gas coming out of the overflow/vent when its parked in the garage if I completely fill the gas tank before going home. Then it evaporates off the garage floor and it really smells when you open the garage door. Took me about 3 days to figure out what was happening. So I do not fill up the tank at the end of a ride. I only get a full gas tank when I start out on a ride, or just fill it to about 7/8 full at the end of a ride. I never fill it until the nozzle clicks off the gas supply.
Try to keep the fuel level at 3/4 of tank or below for the next few weeks and see what happens.
My problem solved without crawling under the Cobra! :LOL::LOL::LOL:

Most if not all of the flip type caps ARE vented. I run a 3/8" fuel rated hose from a fitting (with a check valve) from the top of the tank into the filler neck about 4-6" below the cap. The air is then forced from the tank as it fills and still has a vent when the cap is closed. If the tank was not vented in some manner it will collapse as fuel is pulled out by the pump. The check valve in th line and another in the tank are there to prevent fuel leaving the tank if the tank is inverted (I think I would have other things to be concerned about too in that situation:) ) No vapors in the garage at all.

The check valve mentioned is a roll over spill valve. It lets the tank breath but shuts off in a roll over. They are plumbed into the breather line. Make sure your breather line is routed so it doesn't siphon the gas, that is it only heads uphill from the tank, and it should have that valve in the line also.

Where would I get a check valve as mentioned above? Is it a NAPA part or something common I can find at the local Autozone? I intend to vent my tank in the same manner to my fill line.

I put a 90 degree fitting in the filler neck same hight than the gas tank anr ran a rubber line to the top of the filler neck attach to it with tie straps and at the end of the hose i put a small gas filter which i can unscrew to put some charcoal from a fish tank to filter vapors,didn't try it yet but that's my set up,still in progress.

Fuel hose
Did you use braided hose to plumb the car? If so, what kind/brand? Some brands are lined with material that isn't exactly impervious to modern fuel. Smell the side of the hose. If it wreaks of fuel, you have your answer. PTFE lined hose will solve that particular problem, but you'll pay more for it as well.

I thought one of the joys of owning a Cobra was the smell of gasoline in the morning??
