I'd have to agree with Evan on his analysis of the comparison. There's more to it than a round tube frame to be considered an 'accurate replica'. My FIRST thought, when considering this 'whats better issue' was how about an older Hi Tech? BUT, the problem there is not all Hi Tech's are an accurate interpretation when it comes to specs. For instance, many had a solid axle 9" rear end instead of IRS. That would be a deal killer for me.

Which then raises the question: Are ALL CCX cars 'accurate' to original specs? Did SOME come with a solid axle? Small block? Even some ERA's don't have the 'correct' engine, again, that would be a deal killer for me. Depending on price and other factors I could live with a 'modern' power plant, I guess, uh, I don't know, maybe not. :D An SPF with a 427 "FE" would be WAY more appealing to me than one with a 460 or a small block, for instance.

ERA and Contemporary are pretty equal in my book, be quite happy with either. Superformance is still on the list due to availability and being able to find a newer one more easily. Right now I'm doing a ton of research on trying to find the right car. My negotiations with the better half are proceeding nicely, HOWEVER I have to replace her Land Cruiser (also sold during dot.bomb) which after finding a nice 04 today for 10k under book, puts me at < 45k for my 'toy' as she calls it. So to find the kind of car I want likely means saving a bit more money, or finding a particularly good deal. So I guess time is on my side, banks are folding, winter is coming, gas keeps going up.

Thanks for everyone's replies, it's appreciated.

Cheers,
Mike

Hello Excaliber,

Having a 427 SO before, lends me to agree to having the 'right' combination of appearance, correct motor and wheels is very important to me. My original Contemporary had fake knock off's and I was never happy with them and will not make that mistake again. Performance is very important to me as it's a toy not a daily driver, so if a nice superformance comes along at a fair price, it's a possible thought. But it's not how I'm leaning.

Too bad the ERA, just listed today had it's side pipes changed out for undercar. Gotta have side pipes, if it has a roll bar, racing stripes and hood scoop.

Cheers,
Mike

Absolutely! It's the overall 'look', 'feel', 'soul' of the car that makes or breaks it for one guy over another. We all have a certain place we draw the line. I loved my Excalibur but as time went on I sort of out grew it and wanted something closer to the original 'feel' of a Cobra. As for 'fake knockoff's', some are downright horrible in appearance, others, not so bad. My older ERA has 'fakes' but there pretty well done and fool even die hards without looking closely, a second time. :D

Hello,

Yes those are nice, the lack of safety wire is a dead give away or you just have a death wish :). I'd guess the depth of the black plate is what gives it away.

Cheers,
Mike

Not to hijack this thread, but I had to respond to CobraMike's comment:

"Thanks for the reply. I like both types of racing, we don't really have any road tracks in Iowa that I'm aware of. Lot's of straigt roads!"

Just wanted to point out the we have a wonderful track in Iowa. The Mid America Motorplex is located about 15 miles south of the Omaha/Council Bluffs metroplex along Interstate 29.

And we are hosting an open track event this coming weekend should anyone be interested. Here's some links:
