Roll Bar Help!
Hi,
First post here so bear with me if its in the wrong forum. I need to replace the rubber grommets around my roll bar and wanted to replace with the alum bezels like the ones that finish line has (BK1) http://www.finishlineaccessories.com...roducts_id=218 The only problem is the roll bar does not come out. Is there an alternative to this or possible an open ended style bezel somewhere?? Thx. :) |
You could have them precision cut and then mount joining halves once repolished?%/

Would a machine shop be able to "splice" the bezel like that. Wondering how i would re-seal the bezels once joined around the bar? some type of epoxy?

Home Depot has some nice chrome pipe bezels that split apart.
I am planning on using them on mine when I build it. Do not laugh, they might look good.Go take a look |

Sorry to inform you fish that the open ended flanges from home depot wont work. I would really like to use the ones from finish line. They are nicely done. Just not sure if a machine shop or someone can alter them to get around the roll bar. Surely SOMEONE out there has had to replace your roll bar rubber flanges over time??? Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thx.

They are ALL removable in one way or another, it is just a pain in the a$$ sometimes to do so.
My biggest problem is the carpeting in the trunk that wraps around the lower arm of the roll bar. THAT would be 'messy' to remove and redo! Glyn |
Also, check your bar diameter before you order. The 1.5" bezels that FinishLine sells are each perfectly round and would not work with my roll bar, as the rear-most brace enters the car at an angle (as yours does, too I bet) effectively making it an ellipse.
The 2" set they sell has 2 round bezels and one elliptical bezel, which accomodates the entry angle of the rear brace. |
You are correct Van that my back part of the roll bar is slanted requiring the BK2 part from finish. As far as the roll bar i have it in the paint shop now(and they are doing a SAWEET job) they said the roll bar was welded to the frame?? There is a cut area at the top of one of the pipes put i could not find another area to be able to "un-cap" the roll bar. I thought about ordering the BK2 and see if i could get a machine shop to get it to work. only solution i have at this point.
I would really like to post a few shots from my cobra on here and have one on my name but im not sure how to get them imported?? Can anyone help me out? Thanks for all yalls help guys. Wes |

WOW...I stand corrected. "welded to the frame" indeed! I have seen a number of folks who have done that themselves, especially the 'racing people', but I thought that all the kits came standard with "bolt on" bars.

Well i stopped by the machine shop today and talked to the senior machinist. He thinks he might be able to do the finish line ones. Wish me luck or im out $75.00 :eek:

I think Finishline will sell them individually if you contact them, so you might just try with one to see if it works!

Contact Russ at rtcobra@comcast.net He makes bezels for cobras and may be able to make custom ones exactly to fit your needs.
Anyone with good machine shop skill can make what you need. Just have very accurate drawings for them to use. So mock everything up. Figure out what rubber seals you plan on using, how the seals fit in conjunction with the hole in the body, where the fasteners will go. Try to use nut-serts in the body as your fasteners. But if the holes are too big in the body you may not be able to, etc. etc. The oval bezel could be a bit more difficult. But with all the CNC machines out there you should be able to meet your objectives. I plan on machining my own in my shop. but I won't being doing it for a while, so much else to do. Did you get your roll bars from Street Beasts or somewhere else? I have a Street Beasts Cobra and their roll bars. They have a bolt thru the tubes that can be removed. The rear tube has a bolt at the top and the others, a bolt just above the "anchor point" on the frame. If you have some "home made" or other brand roll bars, this may not help.
