Houston Area Cobra owner sought for advice

Greetings,

I am planning on buying a Cobra towards the end of the year and I am just getting started on my learning curve. I would very much like to Ask The Man Who Owns One a few questions (or woman as the case may be). If anyone in Houston wants to spend a couple hours showing off their car and answering a lot of dumb questions, please email me at aprochek@aol.com.

Regards
Alex

Any particular make? I have several Superformances , James (jusbit) has Backdrafts. I am sure many other owners will chime in soon to show off their ride and answer your questions. Good hunting.

Post on the Texs Cobra Club site

Alex,

Post your request on the Texas Cobra Club link here on Club Cobra. They are a very active bunch. They have a yahoo users group that wears out the servers.

Alex
Here is a thread that might help. There are a lot of manufacturers out there.

Ron (computerworks),
Could you move this thread over to the Texas Club for him ?

Thanks

Thanks for all your help, this should get me started. As for what I am looking for, I will have to dig into specs pretty deep but my needs are simple. Any model that:
1) starts 99.9% of the time
2) stays on after starting 99.99% of the time
3) stops 99.9999999999% of the time
4) breaks traction at least in the first 2 gears, preferably 3.
5) sounds loud but not obnoxious (see "Jap Car; noise can")
6) tires don't scrape fenders whilst cornering (see "my eclipse; trick aftermarket suspension")
7) middle market price (somewhere between an "oh my Gawd who wrenched that together" POS and a Kirkham-bodied Superforce Factory 5 somethingorother)

Regards
Alex

Houston Cobras

Alex:
Welcome to "How much money do you have, how fast do you want to go (or not) and what do you want to do with your car? There are plenty of examples of fine replica Cobra's in the Houston area. Go to >>>
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Houstoncobraclub/
Register and hang on. We meet 2nd Saturday of every month, rain or shine to tell stories, hug lots of perty wimmens and talk about our cars. There are Superformance, Backdraft, Factory Five, Everett Morison, Unique, ERA, Lonestar etc etc. James Yale "Radical Roadsters of Texas" (Backdraft Dealer) in the area http://www.radicalroadsters.com/index.html is very knowledgeable and has built several show/race quality cars. Again, welcome to one of the best communities you'll ever know. Yeah, it's about the cars, but it's also the people.

Go to the niftee 50ees car show in Spring on any Saturday night and you will find at least 10 cobra owners that will tell anything you want to know

You might want to read the new Texas Law. No more Additional Cobra's are not allowed in Houston so you have to buy one already in Houston. Just Joking. Over the last 4 years there has been an incredible Cobra boom in Houston, I remember when I was the only one that had one and may see another one once a year. Now I see one every other week and have to listen to everyone at work how they saw a convoy of them.

The way I see it. either buy a used one as the market is pretty soft right now, build one if you have the time/space/knowledge/understanding wife, or due the turnkey, Superformance or Backdraft. James at Radical is the Backdraft dude and Mitch at Vintage is the Superformance dude. Everett Morrison has also now re-located to Houston.
I aggree with the niftyfiftys show. A lot of cars to see and more than willing people to help you open your wallet
By the way, "What's in your wallett"
The Houston Cobra club meets every 2nd Saturday each month at different places.

Good luck and welcome aboard

Mark aka Goober, aka Ratchetpaw

Madmaxx, I wish you could have pulled that one off!!
