What is it they say? "A car is only original once," sounds like there's a general agreement that the car is no longer "original" and maybe not 100% "correct" so let's get back to Tony's final comment; "proud price."
So what's it worth in today's market? How much fat has Fantasy Junction loaded into the price (they gotta make a living, too).
Is our group a little more sensitive than the rich guy thats got more money than sense? Or maybe the market has no limit?
What would you pay, Tony?

Was originally Vineyard Green with Beige Trim and shipped to Shelby on 6.2.64

They're just trolling the market for the right fish...I bet the actual sale price of the car would be a lot less.

Reminds me of the Ferrari market in the nothwest in the early 80's. A Dealer would place an ad in Autoweek for a certain price (no Vin) and marked it "Sold" the following week, then relisted the car with an inflated price. This went on for quite a while, thus increasing the perceived value of the cars. Sounds like the housing boom here in California before it went "POP"!!!

I agree....IMHO in the proud price is the fat for Fantasy junction and some wiggle room for negotiation.

But, there is an A$$ for every seat and somebody with a wallet fatter than mine may see this as a bargain and bet on what happens in the fullness of time. It will be interesting to see what happens to the pricing of everything Shelby when the inevitable visit from the reaper catches up to CS

......and he always does.

PowerSlide.....I saw this car here in Dublin for sale 20 years ago and the owner wanted $150K then and would have taken it in a flash. If this were auctioned I believe it would sell for $350k - $450k the guys at Fantasy have told me in the past show up with a cashiers check and let's see what happens --- Money Talks !!!!!

According to Lynn, the air cleaner is not original to "dirtbag". He said he had to search for one with the right "patina".

Just a little off on the date

It was invoiced to SA on 1/31/64, shipped to LA on 2/12/64 and invoiced to the dealer on 4/17/64

Funny, the car was bought by current owner in 1997 and was in storage-unmoved for 25 years before that...so how did it happen to be for sale in 1988 in Dublin?

I am not sure that this is the same car, it sure looks like it, I was seriously looking at an original then and do not remember the serial number. Additions to the house to accomodate twin daughters that were 6 at the time and prospect of Two Simultaneous College educations, weddings etc. etc. won out over the purchase.

I bought my first Cobra roadster in 1989 --- an unfinished Shell Valley replica with a 302, T-5 and a Ford 9 inch rear end ---- $24k and sold it a few years later. Unique, an SPF and now the Shelby CSX4264 in the gararge. Along the way I had a FFR Daytona and now the SPF GT-40.

The reality is that we buy these toys with the money that is not ear marked for family, retirement and living life....after that comes the expendable cash for the toys.

Still $675K is a lot of expendible cash

Tony, I agree....prices for originals seem high. But then again so are $125k-$200k 4000 series cars. All of it is nuts. I remember Cobras for $25-$35k back in the early 80's. They have always been great investments...but $25-$35k was a lot of money then...you could buy a decent home for that-even in CA. Over time they have kept up with overall inflation and then some. I remember what I was told when I was young-something is only worth what the next idiot is willing to pay. Sad but true. There have been several recent sales of restored 289 cars selling in the high $500k range (CSX2242 @ Mecum a few months back and now in Hemmings at $693K for sale) that have had damage history. So is an undamaged car put away for 35 years worth more??? Probably...

Just came across this old thread...this car did sell in 2008 via Fantasy Junction...for $600,000...interesting to see where the market is today...but this was a nice car...
