$1,000,000 car....$100 tires?

Are tire choices so limited for a 15" performace applications that we often see original Shelby Cobras and some very high dollar replicas with some really inexpensive tires. Perhaps They aren't expected to last very long so they are considered throw aways  I love the look of the Goodyear "Billboards", but I guess they have limitations. What are some of the more acceptable tire choices on these mega dollar cars?

Just wondering,
Jeff

What are the limitations of the BillBoards? I love mine.

Bill Boards have no limitations! :D

It's an interesting observation puppster. When I see a BIG money car with cheapo tires I gotta wonder, where else did they cut corners? What kind of cheapo maintanence has the car had in it's life? If it's 'restored' you can bet they used off the shelf parts that 'mostly' fit. Just leaves me wondering about the over all quality in general.

I'm guilty of pricing a kit with the cheapest tires available to try and get approval form my wife. She's smarter than that though. I guess when it comes down to it, and you really want to get a car on the road, one might sacrifice the tire choice, but I recall seeing an original 427 Cobra on ebay last winter with $500 worth of rubber on it. That's pretty cheap.

I thought the "Billboards" were not DOT approved, if that is true, I'm guessing it's because of wet traction (with out a top on the car I'm guessing it doesn't matter much). I love the looks of them for sure. I'll check out the Avon's as well.

Thanks

I run Mickey Thompson Drag radials in back 315-25-17 and run Proxis on the front, which seems the proxy is a popular choice for front tires
