Phil Hill Passes away 8/28/08
We lost another legend today.
I hold my steak up high, and make a toast to you, Phil! http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...8/newsletter02 MEATMASTER |
That is indeed a great loss to the automotive racing world.
R.I.P. Phil Wayne |
I second that!
RIP Phil |
My utmost respect and admiration to people like Hill that drove old machinery so hard and fast without much protection. He had some serious huevos. RIP.

A true Gentleman of the Sport.

Very sad indeed. A true legend.
It sounds like he made his last pilgrimage to Monterey. A fitting send off. "After traveling to the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, Phil was taken to a hospital, where he died after a short illness from complications of Parkinson's Disease in Salinas, California on August 28th" |
bummer
met him a few times and he treated me like I was one of the guys even though I was a young nobody. Truely one of the greats! RIP:CRY:

A man with amazing accomplishments. He raced F1 cars back in the time when drivers were killed racing almost weekly, yet he never really had an major accidents. Amazing considering he won the Grand Prix Chamionship in '61.
I did a small write-up on his Cobra racing career here: http://www.csxinfo.net/web/modules/a...istings&lid=19 What a cool guy. http://www.grandprix.com/jpeg/bc/Hil...taly_01_bc.jpg Photo from the Cahier Archive http://www.f1-photo.com/ |
Phil Hill learned Italian, and apparently his hand gesturing when he spoke would put the Italians to shame. Photo below as an example:
