The joys of SB100. Man, am I glad I'm done with that stuff. It's great once you have it though. I'm selling my SPF now.. so... the next owner (if they are in Calif) will have it easy. LOL

Here's what my DMV manager advised me to do. After paying all the fees at DMV, she gave me 90-day TOP (in July 2007), It had a 10 on it meaning good through October 2007. She told me to wait to make an appointment with CHP until I received my SB 100. I received two more TOP's to get me through March 2008 while I was making appointments with CHP and BAR. The CHP will ask you for your SB 100 number and the rest of the Form 124 application, along with the paperwork that proves you paid your fees. That officer will make the decision whether to use the existing registered VIN or assign a new California VIN and affix a VIN plate in "two" places on the car. One is hidden.

Once you're done at CHP, then make your appointment with the BAR through the (800) number on their website. The one I went to is most likely the closest to you and it's next to the tennis courts at Golden West College. They use college students to help with the inspection. Pretty painless there.

Then take your BAR paperwork back to DMV, and they will issue you the license plates on the spot. Done. No need for "services" or additional fees. Good luck.

The CHP will determine if you get to keep the out of state VIN plate. I've seen a few that were done that way. The CHP accepted what was on the car and put that in the system.

I don't have my SB100 yet, but the CHP left my Arizona VIN plate in place and assigned that VIN to the car. Santa Clara DMV confirmed that the Arizona VIN will remain with the car.

The Arizona registration is probably OK as AZ (like several other states) allows replicas to be registered as the year they replicate.
