Red Starter switches to replace Key
I am Worndering if any of you guys or gals have substituted the key for one of those red springback toggel switches with the cover like old airplanes had. I just ordered one from finish line but am unsure if it is a regular toggel switch or a one way retracting like i want. Any information would be helpful.

Starter Switch
Mike, I think you'll have a problem. One, there's a good bit of power flowing through a starter switch so you'll have to be sure any switch you have is up to the rating. Two, if you're replacing the keyed ignition switch, you'll need a 3 position toggle. . . off/on/momentary on.
I'm running a keyed ignition switch and a starter button (actually two starter buttons; one on the dash and one under the hood). I can engage the starter either with the switch, or with the starter button(s) and the key in the on position. Matt |
Your might be right, But i can't give up that easy. Maybe i'll hide a on switch somewhere and just start the car with the togle.

The key was totally eliminated and a push button installed which starts the car...also needs a toggle switch to power the cars accesories up too. Not to sure how your insurance company would feel about it ... FYI: Your key AND a push button starter is easy...and looks great... |
The Honda S2000 starter button seems to be a popular one to use. Still requires a key to enable the ignition etc.

for years on my car, i have had to turn the ignition on with a key, but have a red flip cover "momentary on" toggle switch put where my windshield washer pump button once was. Turn the key on, flip up the cover, hold the toggle up to crank the motor, let go, then flip down the cover. It was easy to wire, i ran the starter wire tht had gone straight to the starter solenoid thru the toggle, thence to the solenoid.
While one would think cranking a running engine in one of these cars would be unlikely, I had done it, but with the the toggle down, it prevents that occasionial mental lapse. Besides, it looks cool. They are available lots of race parts suppliers. all the best... |
