Need a quick answer
I have owned my A&C for 8 years with bolt on wheels, well I,m now a well satisfied customer of Bob at Vintage Wheels, my new wheels are great and Bob took very good care of me with his personal service (highly recommend) them. Now for the question I have never had true knock off wheels just how hard do you hit the spinners with the lead hammer how do you know if they are tight enough ?

'Plastic hammer' and safety wire. After a few blows, you'll know it's tight enough.

Use a lead hammer and hit it three times VERY HARD. Be sure to use a light smear of 'anti-seize' before installation, and of course, lockwire in the direction of the tightened threads.

wheels that go on eventually have to come off. I have found that tri-wing knock off spinners tend to tighten rather than loosen, assuming they are snug in the first place. If you want to use a lead hammer to put them on, hold the hammer up close to the head, so you can't hit as hard as when you remove the spinner by hitting the spinner with the hammer held near the end of the handle. For some time, i tap them on with a dead blow hammer, until they quit turning, then stop. I don't wack them as hard as possible either. Thus far, with my lead hammer, i have always been able to get the spinners off with the lead hammer. I use antiseize on the mating surfaces, too. I think if you hit them hard with the lead hammer, you will break off a wing trying to take them off with the lead hammer. Just my experience.

Just dont do what I done. I didn't have a lead hammer so I used a claw hammer...broke all tree wings right off:CRY: Had to drill holes all the way arond the center then chisel the damn things off. Lesson learned:o

Here are the new instructions for tightening the spinners.
Keep hitting them with a hammer till all the wings are knocked off. You've gone too far. Back them off just a tad. Sorry, couldn't resist!:LOL: |

Most folks hit it 'hard' out of fear a wheel will fall off, not necessary if you use safety wire after a couple of tight blows. I have 14K miles with no wheel lost.
