They are more sensative to the atmospheric and barometric conditions.
The TAD and Nitro Funny Cars run on the edge of hydraulic lock from what I've read (?). And only spin about 900 RPM's for the 1/4 mile. |

Of course that does not take into account any wheel spin. |

How do you make an 815 CI engine ?
Throw a lot of money at a lot of parts!!! John |
Big motors....
Both the NHRA and IHRA limit bore spacing on these engines to 5" or less.
This places a limit on bore size so the large displacement has to be accomplished by using very long stroke cranks in a raised deck block. The result being that these monster motors are very undersquare. Since longevity is not a factor in building drag race motors, these motors can be made to work. It would be rather difficult to build a streetable motor in this configuration that would last a reasonable amount of time before a rebuild was necessary. Since the bore size limitation also restricts valve size as well, you have to put as much camshaft timing into them as is possible to make them aspirate well. Building such an engine with a milder streetable camshaft would probably make the additional displacement fairly useless. ....Fred |
Alot easier for a street applicaton to just use a turbo or supercharger.
If I can push 650whp out of a 2.4L (148ci) and still have a useable powerband, and be reasonably reliable, then imagine how much power could be had from a much larger V-8. Actually don't imagine it, see it (347ci LS1-based engine w/ a T76 Turbo at "medium" boost in a ~3300lb car): Inside view: http://gonicd.com/videos/9_47_inside.wmv Outside view: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/N...7-c7ef813f005d |
