First Year on the Road - Impressions
Getting ready to finish up the first driving season in my Cobra. Kind of depressing but I already have a list of minor winter projects for it. What a blast it is to drive it as I'm sure you're all aware of.
I do plan on driving it through the winter if we can get some 40 degree and dry days around here. Put a little over 900 miles on it (hope to get more next year), been to 8 car shows, take it to church quite often and a number of cruise's on Saturday nights. Still can't believe the attention the car gets! Had many bikers wave or give me the thumbs up, wasn't expecting that! The word "fun" comes to mind when people ask me to describe driving it. During the season, I met two other Cobra owners in the area, one of them has a yellow one with a 514 in it, what a beast! The other guy is building an FFR & hoping to have it finished in spring. The problems I had so far were: broken rocker arm stud, bad starter and had to replace a brake caliper. Not too bad for the first season on the road. When I first got it on the road, my confidence in it was lacking but now I'll take it just about anywhere. Also want to thank all of you that helped answer the questions I've had since I joined the forum, you guys were a big help.:D Can't wait for spring!!! Randy |
Here's some of my impressions for the first season driving my ERA Cobra. From the very first drive, it was FUN. I put a little over 800 miles since July and had very few issues (besides lots of rain in CT.). This car just wants to run. The handling and performance is incredible, to say the least. I really was suprised at the attention I got, as I really wasn't looking for attention. Everybody stares and give the "thumbs up", or just ask lots of questions when I fill up.
No real mechanical problems except having to adjust the clutch pedal and change the advance springs in the distributor. Only a small list of repairs or modifications to do over the winter, which includes changing the oil pan & pickup, installing the (polished) turkey pan, adjusting/centering the steering wheel, fixing the tach and speedo ground wires, checking the wheel bearings, and touch up the engine paint, which baked off at the exhaust boss (both heads). Overall, I am thrilled by the performance and driving experience and, after forty years of wanting a Cobra, I can't wait until next season. |
I have had my SPF 1 year today and have logged 5,000 miles with out any problems. Our driving season is all year long. What a blast:D

4300 miles and no serious problems..
I got my car in June and it is a ball or as the kids say awesome !! I never thought I would put that miles on it...had to change my mileage limit. As I live at a ski area in the pacific northwest it is now in storage and I can't wait till spring. The car gets way too much attention for me so I would take it out in the early morning on backroads and stop for gas at remote stations and even then people would come out of the forest to check it out . I finally ask a 15 year old boy how he even knew about a car that was raced before his father was born and he said they are in the video games and in a movie called gone in 60 seconds ?? Never ever drive it by a school or you will interrupt what is going on. Great sound...outstanding performance...no disappointments...
