Who drives their Cobra in the cold weather? - Page 4

When the wife came home late last week she wanted to go for a ride. It was about 40 degrees and I figured she wouldn't last long. We drove to town but when we started home she stressed the point that she wasn't cold and wanted to ride some more.

We will be cold weather riders. I was told that the heater even without a top makes a big difference. Anyone tried this?

I was out yesterday in 40 degree weather. I dressed for skiing as I took the hood (top) off. Heater on/off not any noticeable difference. Heater on with tonneau over passenger area a little better....but SWMBO doesn't like the closed in feeling..so she didn't accompany me. The 302 in this Autokraft is much better in cool weather with the denser charge.

Coach Mike and I have drove our Cobras for the last 6 winters. He drives every week that it does not rain, he has more stress in his job.

We have very little snow in North Alabama and the winter temperatures are high twenty's to sixty's. This week is 30 to 55. A heater does make a lot of different with no top. Our heater ducts are set to blow in out lap / knee area. You can take a glove off and warm you hand, it's not much but just knowing you have heat makes a big different to me. Short trip in town, the heater does better in keeping you warm but on the open road you need more cold weather clothes. I have a leather pilot helmet to keep my ears warm and a scarf around my neck, that is a must for me because I hate cold weather.

A Cobra is a big boy's toy but it can be a year round toy. People still wave at you but they have that, "Your crazy", look on their face.

When we drive to the London Cobra Shows we leave Florence at 10:00 PM and drive all night thru Tenn. and Kentucky. It's cool "in them thar hills" and I have my heater till the sun comes up.

Yup, a Cobra around here needs a heater.

This thread inspired me to take the car for a spin today...I had just gone for a run so I was in shorts...threw on a light coat and hit the road...man was it great...only thing cold was my hands...

This car as you know gets tons of looks on a warm day...you should have seen people today!

I just can't get enough of this car.

Just back from a run...40 degrees but not cold with a hat and gloves. Definitely notice a little more power when its cold like this. Just a blast to drive.

I was out beating the car today. The wife wanted to do some errands. 40ish out. I slide a Macy's box top between the radiator and the screen ( I saved this box top for 2 years already) LOL it comes in handy. I also bypass the oil cooler.
So anyway, we are cruising through Valley Forge Park and spot another Cobra going the other way. We wave thinking that is that and continue on our way. About 5 minutes later he is behind us. Cool. So we stop. The wife does her errands at Trader Joes, and we hit the road again. Naturally I have test his metal a little bit. and low and behold this guy is a pretty good wheelman. I drop the wife off at the house and then proceed out to my best buddies. We bought Cobras at the same time. I will plead the 5th on anything after that, but we had a LOT of fun today, freezing our @sses off LOL

I had a nice little ride yesterday but I have to block off the oil cooler and maybe part of the radiator, engine temps never got to the correct operating temps.

Well I have a plan, it's not really about driving in the cold (but may). After having ridden my motorcycle to the north shore of Alaska (Barrow) and South to Panama. I'm thinking of the idea of building a car to do the same trip but with my wife (who will not ride on the motorcycle for more then a few miles)...It would offer the same bare bone form of travel only with a little different twist.. After seeing all forms of different types of cars/trucks/motorcycles/motor homes/mountain bikes on the haul road, why not do it in a Cobra? Am I nuts? This would be a summer trip, so were not completely off the deep end here.

Took a little ride yesterday to fill up the tank for the winter. Hooded sweatshirt and leather motorcycle jacket and gloves. Warm as toast. Enjoyed the ride a great deal and got lots of thumbs-up and waves. Could have gone for hours. I often take a ride around the Christmas or New Year's holiday. When it's really cold, the full face helmet works great. Amazing what a box of foam around your head can do for warmth. Some people think you're crazy. It's not their affirmation I'm looking for, though.

It hit about 45 here in ct today dec. 1st so i made sure i got home early, took off my suite and dressed for a nice ride. All i needed was alight wind breaker. Who's knows whe it will be this nice again!

Just got back from a short ride. I plan on taking it out at least once a month when the roads are dry to get the juices flowing, etc. After sitting for about a month with a battery tender it took a few cranks to get it going but it came to life fairly easy in the 47 degrees. I thought 47 would not be too bad but I was quite cold by the time I got back. Will wear something on my head and gloves next time as my face, hands, and ears were the only body parts that got cold. The first car I met was a state trooper and he just shook his head. Others kind of stared and I thought that was quite amusing. Ran like hell as it always does. Always a thrill.

Took a ride today. 80 Degrees, bright sunshine. Now I know why I moved from New York to Florida. Might just take the boat out tomorrow!!

My wife and I took the Daytona out for Thanksgiving what a great day to drive.I thought we would get cold but with no insulation it was nice inside even with the windows out 30 mile round trip to sis's house I can be thankfull for a great day with family and a great day of driving...WB3

I was out today in CT. About 40 degs, but being cold in a Cobra is better than doing chores in the warm at home.

Went to the monthly Cobra get together in Chester NJ today. 24 degrees at start up but if the sun is out its always a good day for a drive. Putting my ski clothes to good use. Stay tough!

Cold weather is fun as long as its clear / dry.

The getup;

Sweater with collar that flips up
G1 USN flight Jacket fur lined collar that flips up.
sheepskin lined gauntlet driving gloves

Bundle up like you are flying a Blower Bentley and you should be fine.

I manage to drive all winter too, guess cold is a relative term.
