Jag rear differential question

I bent the input yoke flange that the drive shaft attaches to. Long story, don't ask!:LOL:

Anyway, the pinion is fine, I just bent the face flange a bit. I obtained another good input yoke (Thanks, Nick!), and I need to install it. It's easy to see that I remove the center nut, use a puller and pull off the old yoke. My question is, can I just install the new yoke and install the center nut and torque it? I have a vague recollection in my youth of rebuilding a GM 12 bolt rear and there was a crush sleeve that set bearing clearances of some sort. Do I run into that problem here or is it just a quick replacement? I sure would like to avoid this becoming a big involved job if possible. Thanks.

Yup there is a crush sleeve and if you torque it too much it will leak. If you don't torque it enough it will leak. Been there, done that.

call me tonight Doug

767Jockey Call me BEFORE you pull that Yoke. You need to mark it. Nut and pinion. You should also get a drag load rate before also Rick L. If you over tork the pinion bearings you will get to much backlash and per wear out the bearings. I will be home after 7:00pm

Wow Rick! Way to help a fellow Cobra enthusiast!

I'll give you a call Rick - thanks!

767 Jockey, I am not sure if you have installed the yoke yet but what I normally do is torque the nut to 100 ft lbs (NO IMPACTING) also putting some sealer on the washer, the crush sleeve requires more the this to crush. I only mark the nut if I am using the same yoke. Also take an in/lb reading before removing the yoke and see how it compares to when you are finnished. Be sure to replace the oil and I would always take the car for a test drive and feel the pinion area for heat when I checked for leaks.
