Winter Project...Engine Dress Up
Hello All
Well...the new engine seems to be OK and running strong. I have only been around the block a couple of times so far...too cold and wet in NE Ohio. I might get lucky as its supposed to be close to 50 this weekend...now if it stays dry I just might have a chance to see how all of the moving parts...are moving! This winter I want to do some improvements in the engine bay. I am looking for photos of small blocks showing valve covers & spark plug wire routing, spark plug looms, hoses etc. Many on the forum have knack (not me) for making thing neat tidy and tight in the engine bay. I have been looking at the line of Russell Pro Classic hoses and fittings. I like the black hose and the black & silver fittings any photos would be graetly appreciated thanks John |

I still have a few projects left to do on mine, like installing a longer AN line so it doesn't hang over the valve cover (foreground). I'm going to replace the coolflex lines with solid, polished aluminum tubes, too (but will try to keep the aluminum end covers). The breathers have been replaced with some from Edelbrock that match the covers.
I ran the plug wires underneath. That ugly solenoid is starting to look like a turd in the punch bowl, so it will probably go, too. http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...g?t=1229198553 |
vanoochka; You can do away with the solonoid completely. Your using the Hi-torque starter and it has a solonoid built in. I'll draw you a diagram on how to do it. I did it on mine...your 351...with Hi-torque starter.

Here's a pic of my small block before it was dropped in.

I think the detail for removing the starter solenoid on the firewall is on my wiring diagrams. This is assuming yoi have a high torque starter with its ownd solenoid. Be advised that the aluminum firewall behind the solenoid flange and the two bolts may have been damaged depending on how tight the mounting bolts were tightened at the factory. The usual solution it to relocate the Superformance plaque to cover the two holes and the damage. If your firewall is not dented, contact me for information on how to fill the two holes with POP rivits that match the others on the firewall. Tha goes for anyone else too who need the info. I'll send you a photo of how I plugged mine. Mine looks like factory. BTW...The engine compartment looks great... Blas |

Thanks for the tip. Old #237 was built before the aluminium firewall was standard on SPF's, so no problem with denting. I use black plastic rivets to plug holes on it (like those left when I installed the aluminum reservoir). They are almost invisible.
