Slabside Talk

I have always been a diehard fan of the 289 cobra and amazed at the fact that the majority of the effort has gone into the replication of the 427 car. I am only aware of Kirkham, Hawk and ERA (FIA version). I also ran into a car a couple of years ago done by John's Custom Fabrication in Coos bay Oregon. I had contacted him and it took three months to get a price sheet that was very rough. Hence I became very uncomfortable in dealing with him. Anyone aware of anyone else replicating the slabside?

Greg

Sorry

I did forget about the Canadian built slabside, this one is well worth the asking price. I wish my wife wanted it as I would buy it w/o thought as it has many CSX type updates.

I have a JCF that will compare favorably to any slabside replica. There are pictures in my gallery. John can be frustrating to deal with but, with reservations ,builds a quality, authentic product. The fact that he is located less than a couple hours drive from me didn't hurt.

I've had an Aurora Cobra slab side since 1987 now passed 100,000 miles on it. Very tight car extremely well made

Greg,
Superformance has their slabside under development. We should be finished in Feb with the first orders being delivered in April. If you like drop me an e mail and I can keep you posted .The body is the later 289 style not the early 260 shape. As close to authentic as production allows.

More slabside

Been quite a few changes since my original post in 2008.

Yes, I did forget to include the Aurora. I have never actually seen one in person, certainly would be an option, they do not appear to come up for sale too often. I also left off the obvious being Shelby American. Like many of us my options are limited by a perceived budget. For awhile, it appeared that Factory Five was going to do both a slabside & an FIA but that appears to be dead forever. I did get to meet Mr Bruce at a SAAC convention and my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa and would love to buy a FF MkIV and turn him lose on swapping for one of his bodies as I saw some of the nice work he does. In the meantime, short of doing nothing, I took some advice from this forum and put a deposit on an ERA slabside in November 2009 to quote "get in line". I check status periodically with Peter . . .

We all have our reasons why we like 289 or 427 cars. I grew up watching the 289 cars race at Watkins Glen and spent many years racing formula cars in the SCCA. Alot of $$$$ down the black hole of racing, no regrets but I am interested in building something I can enjoy & drive anywhere. I think Jim Holden said it best in a post a couple of days ago that "sometimes less is more". I can relate to that, just need to get this done while I am still young (60?).

Waiting for my Slabside

I agree completely about the "less is more" comment. Mr. Chapman turned the name LOTUS into a legend using this simple rule.

So, as you have done, I am waiting in line for my slabside from ERA. (Peter, please. We are not getting any younger.)

Email me, rick(AT)timemachinesauto.com or PM me and I'll forward info.

The first cars are built but the line is growing. The SPF MK II street cars share the correct AC type chassis with our FIA/USRRC cars and has many details to make it as authentic as possible.

I expect to have a demo unit by late Spring.
