6 pin knock-ons - advice needed
Hi guys, first new thread posted here, although been lurking on and off for a while.
About to start a new car build and bitten by the authenticity bug. I'm looking for some advice on knock-ons which are far more common your side of the lake than here in the UK. Can anyone tell me whether its possible to fit a 6 pin knock-on wheel onto a jaguar (5 stud) hub (front and rear, same pcd though). I found a thread that looked like ERA did something, but looks like a bespoke or replacement hub assembly (big $$$?), maybe only for the rears. Unfortunately i didnt understand everything that was written there by someone who seemed to have solved the problem with FIA wheels. Hope you can help. Kevin |

You can't do 6 pin wheels on a Jag 5 pin hub. You have two choices - replace the hubs with 6 pin hubs (Justcobras.com, about $850 for four) or use the very popular 5 pin wheels with adapters. Vintage, Trigo, PS Engineering, all of them sell tons of these, and from the outside they all look the same. Good luck, and welcome to the madness! Doug |

Doug, reason is I am thinking of using 16" knock-ons (have my eye on a second hand autocraft set). 16" tyres are far more plentiful in the UK than 15". but 16" halibrand knock-ons only come with 6-pin drive as far as I can find. Back to the drawing board. :CRY: I was thinking about that idea Larry, but i would still have a problem as simon's adaptors are only for the front - am I wrong? would 15" rear and 16" front look stupid? :JEKYLHYDE: cheers, Kevin |

They seem to last forever. For example, I have a set of Goodyear Eagle GTII w 6 seasons, 21,000 miles, about 50% rubber still left. 16" on one end and 15" on the other would not be the "original look". Some compromises to originality are generally made by us all. After a while, it's okay. There was a bolt-on adapter from Contemporary once which added a lot of weight and track in the front.
The rear used a similar setup as ERA's. I can only advise to get a 6-pin set. Because you avoid a lot of trouble which we are busy solving here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...8&goto=newpost I also have a set of new 15" 6-pin wheels near Frankfurt/Germany. The backspacing of the front MK4 are completely different than what mine have and you want. I tried MK4 wheels on my RAM and they stuck out big time. Dom |
