Cobra Points of Interest - So. California
I have a Cobra enthusiast friend coming into Los Angeles this Thursday to visit and staying through Saturday. Other than McCluskey, any thoughts on some points of interest? Street rod, Cobra restoration, etc. Worthy of a visit?

If he is interested in Cobra's, GT40's and Daytona coupes take him to Hillbank Motorsports in Irvine. They carry Shelby and Superformance.
Or, Maybe Peterson Museum is more in line with what you're looking for. |
Cars & Coffee in Irvine early Sat AM? Not solely Cobras but definately a good couple of hours for Gearheads, you can incorporate it into other activities too.

From January 23 through January 25, the Grand National Roadster Show will be held at the Pomona Fairplex. Any and all automotive enthusiasts in Southern California will be in attendance. Also, I know that Superformance, Roush, and Backdraft Racing will have a big display outside the buildings.
Perhaps I'll see you there. D. Brian Smith former Editor of KIT CAR magazine |
A more current link to C&C...
http://forum.carsandcoffee.info/forumdisplay.php?f=11 That's my red rocket to the right. Other cars there last week included a D-Type Jag, a Vector, a good handful of Lambos and Ferraris (including an F40), a couple full-on Porsche race cars, enough musclecars to make all the oil companies smile and about six or so Cobras (including one original). Oh yeah...a stunning early 50's Packard and at least 2-3 Ford GTs. And even the rare 'Vettes came out this weekend (I counted three ZR1s of '90-95 vintage). The lot has lately been filling up with more plain Jane cars (case in point, the red Bimmer ragtop behind the other one...yawn). But to each his own. I arrived at 6:30am and the place was already 1/3 full. -Dean http://cncpics.com/d/238750-4/CCi090117128.JPG |
Grand National show
I'w with auto smith. The Grand national show in Pamona is a great show. If you go on Saturday during the dat there are quite a few local cars outside between the buildings. If you want to see it all it takes a good 4-5 hours. I think its $15/person and $8 to park.

FWIW, C&C in Irvine and the Pomona Fairgrounds are approximately within one hour of each other (no more than 45 minutes if you drive like I do). :D
That would be a GREAT day for any visitor. You could easily knock out C&C and get to Pomona in plenty of time for a full day there. |
The Peterson Museum is always worth a visit.
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...t=94012&page=2 I've never been, but there's also the Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar (mostly cars from the late 1800's to the 1940's). http://www.nethercuttcollection.org/Museum.aspx |
2 Birds One Stone
If you go to t e Roadster show Hillbank/Superformance will have a few Cobras at least one GT40 and a few customer cars at their display (outside). I may even be there with the BLACKSNAKE Ryan

Thanks all. Nick from Acton Custom (Mickmate) is coming to town. Already planning on attending the Roadster Show Saturday. I think Cars and Coffee will be mostly dead due to the Pomona event, but always a good time! Any thoughts on private collections, individual restoration or something to fill out Friday?? I have a 427 Kirkham and 65 Sunbeam Tiger, Nick is scratch building a Cobra, etc. Anyone interested in getting together Friday PM, or at the Roadster show on Saturday with some Cobra kin, please drop me or Mickmate a private message.

Good stuff Jim and crew. Roadster Show is the primary reason for the visit as I have a lot of work into an AMBR contender. Autosmith will probably know Chuck Vranas and this car. The car is going on display at the Peterson when the show is over so we may get over there with it. Trouble is as good as the show sounds I get soooo distracted with anything Cobra, you guys understand. Hillbanks looks worth a visit for sure at home and at the show. Dean aren't those baseball shooters on the side of that red rocket? Looking forward to meeting Jim, Tom and some of you guys and seeing your rides. I have known Jim for 10 plus years thanks to CC and we've never met! Looking forward to it, look for the shirt with an AC logo that reads ACE, probably have a real sunburnt guy in it.
Cheers lads. |
According to their website, Backdraft is going to be at the Grand National Roadster Show as well, and I believe they're going to have one of their new GT-40 replicas along with them... good stuff.
