Report on Edelbrock "Durashine" ?
Do any of you have a report on the quality and longevity of the Edelbrock, "Durashine" ?
|
The quality and longevity are excellent. However, if you have alot of aluminum/billet under the hood it can draw attention away from it because it "outshines" it. A friend has one on his engine and it is the focal point versus high dollar billet accessories...valve covers, air cleaner, radiator, etc.

Hello John, since I've replaced my polished Cobra aluminum valve covers with chrome Pentroofs, the Durashine of the Edelbrock may look even better. I have a Vic Jr. intake that I had ceramic coated and I still have to polish it.
I'm having KC build me a motor so, if I sell my engine with the intake, I may buy either the RPM or Vic Jr. in the Durashine. How long of time has it been since you or your friend, has had the part ? Do you have to polish it, if so, how often ? Has the color kept up ? Thanks, |
Hi Kevin,
My friend's manifold is around three years old. Never polished and it remains very shiney with no discoloration. He also changed his valve covers to chrome and reduced the amount of chrome fittings and braided hose and a K&N air cleaner that has an element built in the top. He also has an Edelbrock Durashine carburator. Much better look than before, more tastful. To me chrome and aluminum don't mix very well, it's one or the other. John |
Edelbrock doesn't say what the metal coats are (first two layers), but the final layer is clear powder coat. Powder coat is plenty tough.
So treat it like any other powder coated part and expect it to last like any other powder coated part. |
When I built my cobra back in 2001 and rebuilt my engine in 03', nobody had chrome parts for the FE's. Now, there are several company's that do. Even when I bought my Cobra alum. wheels that's all they had, now you can buy them in chrome also. Looks like I'll be bying some new shinny parts.
I love chrome. |
I have an EnduraShine manifold and it stays nice and bright with only an occasional wipe down.
My only word of caution is to be careful if you run Evans coolant. If it gets on the EnduraShine finish and you don't notice for 10 hours, or so, it will eat right through it. Did I mention this is my second EnduraShine manifold? |
Heard some where, that gas hurts it too ?
Your second manifold, is that because of the Evans ? ;) |

But thanks for the lesson. ;) |
