Got me some Lucas Trilobe Headlights

Very cool addition to the cobra. I picked them up last week on ebay for $90, thats a pair of PL700's with H4 halogens. I thought I found gold or something at that price. Just installed them yesterday and they even work. Can't beat it. Big improvement just my comparing one to the other in light, plus they look great.

I'll have to get one on Monday and then I'll load it.

The Lucas Tri-bars headlights look great, but they have a really poor beam pattern. They're fine if you don't do much night driving, but if you need to be able to see where you're going on unlit roads, you will more than likely find them lacking.

I agree with Paul, they look good during daylight, but bring flashlights for night driving. They are cheap China knockoffs.
Mine came with some cloudiness on the inside of the lenses. The ebay seller said to use a little windex on a soft bristle brush working through the bulb opening. Worked great!

Honestly, I haven't had it out at night yet but when you compare beam strength with the lucas vs. the "stock", the lucas seemed much brighter.

FatBoy 02-22-2009 11:14 AM

The "brightness" comes from the type of bulb you have fitted, but the beam pattern will dictate where that light goes and with the Tri-bars, it could be anywhere. ;)......except mostly where you want it.
They do light up the roadside tree tops quite nicely though.

Maybe i'll change the passenger side out for a RHD to compensate for the LHD on the drivers side, then I'll be able to see everything.

I just placed an order with Cobra Restorers the other day, and while taking the order he casually mentioned that he had just received a shipment of genuine Lucas Tri - bar (or lobe, whatever they're called) headlights, I think he said he had a temporary special on them for $140 a pair.

I have the Lucas tripodes, bars, whatever you want to call them and they work just fine at night. The beam pattern is right where it should be.

Have always liked cobra when I first spotted one. Started stashing parts 25 years ago and would by extra stuff as run across. Store would go out of business or would have cool things which I would think be hard to find I would buy. Example lucas lights, small parts. When Butler was about to shut down I bought all parts that were english on car such as Latchs, handles, windshield, ect, I look at parts on kit cars and csx cars and older parts I have and there is a differance. Don't know if all know that lucas made diff sets of headlights. Driver sets right side of car one set , export where driver sets on left side of car are diff, hard to find. I know because I have several sets and even number on box is diff. If you find some for sale (mine are not) make sure they are for left side driver like in usa.
