Installing motor mounts
I was thinking of installing mounts myself...I have a lift w/jacktrays but dont have a engine lift...Is there a certain spot that i should put the jack under the engine to take wght of old and install new mounts, or is a hoist the only way ? They are the poly mounts from craigayl and its a 427so engine....Any tricks or helpful hints would be great,THANKS:o

I used my floor jack with a 10 inch piece of 2 X 8 on top of it. That distributed the weight over the oil pan with no problems.

You can also do just one side at a time if that's easier for you. A good piece of wood under the oil pan is all you need. You don't have to lift the engine very far.

I wasnt sure if that would screw up oil pan....Hopefully it shouldnt take more than a few hours ???? Any extra tricks or secrets would be greatly appr.....Thanks

don't lift to high.. watch the side pipe opening.. you only need about 1" to change the mounts. you can also put a piece of wood on your jack and jack up the sidepipe on one side and do one at a time.

One of the reasons I am doin the swap is because the engine seems to move more than it should, and also because I dont like the way the pipes r comin out the hole....Hitting bottom body opening on driver side and top of openging and towards the back on pass side....and then I still have to adjust pipes so there is not alot of stress on pipe hangers.

Motor mounts are done!!! Thanks for the helpful advice guys. As soon as the motor was lifted slightly the driver side mount pretty much fell out in a few pieces.:eek:Passenger side was cracked also.Mounts from craigayl are very nice.Now all I have left to do is repair r-side exhaust support,check trq on heads and intake ,rear shock supports(updated)and decide what pipes to put on . Also am thinking of dynoing the car and using a sniffer to see if carb is correct. Thanks again Craig
