Glad you and your daughter are fine. You're smart about not claiming it on your insurance. It's a choice of take the financial hit now or later. Sure, they will pay the claim but you will be canceled come renewal time. The rates for your daily drivers will increase dramatically and you won't be able to insure any Cobra for 3-5 years.

Glad to see daughter and you are well. I had a dog run out in front of me while on my harley and roads were slightly wet at 40mph. Needless to say that the dog got a broken hip and some other inj. but I did pay the med bills for dog . Better him than me ! I would def. claim it on insurance.....Good luck..

As mentioned before, I too am glad that you & your little girl are okay. As for the Cobra, it can be replaced.

MaSnaka 03-23-2009 11:01 AM

I don't know how you can ever fully recover from that kind of trauma. I know I would give up all my parts as long as my 12 yo daughter was unhurt in something like that. Bravo to you both. I'm not sure who said it but pay attention to your daughter's state of mind...that is good advice, as well as what others have said.

Thanks guys! My daughter seems to be in a pretty good state of mind. I will continue to keep a close eye on her that is excellant advice. Iroically it seems to be bothering my 10 yr old son the most? He always loved to ride with me in the car and was my right hand man anytime I was out working on it. When I look in his eyes I can see some of the sparkle is gone. I've tried to talk to him about it a few times but he starts to cry and it winds up with me just standing there hugging him. I think he's dealing with the realization that we could have very easily been killed and it's bothering him. I'm going with him to his cub scout meeting tonight so I'll try talking to him again. Then again he might just be pissed because he was hoping to get the car..lol..

I would file a suit against the groundhog for tort interference with my psychological well being .

that might be worth a couple of mil.

I am glad you both are ok. Now about the insurance. That is what you buy it for. When I totaled my cobra (see gallery) my insurance company (state farm) paid it off and I am still covered by them. They even covered the replacement spf. I would look into a little deeper. My two cents worth.......

Bugman,

Heed the advice of vettestr. My 17 year old totaled her 4Runner last summer. Flipped it into a ditch doing 20mph. It's took her months to shake it off. Watch her closely.

As everyone else is saying, the car is replacable. Glad you and she are unharmed.

Archrms 03-23-2009 12:48 PM

Bugman, Glad you both are safe. As Rick said earlier, tear it down when you get it home, it may look worse than it is. I am sure the Weaver's at Unique will be more than glad to help you sort out what can be fixed and what needs to be replaced.

SP01715 03-23-2009 02:04 PM

Glad to see you guys are ok. Like others have said, I would think about going through insurance if I was you. I have seen claims payed that were a substantial amount and the person was not dropped. It depends on your history of course, but I would not just eat the car if it were mine.

Clois Harlan 03-23-2009 02:24 PM

I too am most glad that you both are ok but I believe that it is fixable and I am sure I might call my insurance company...I think it will cost less than you think to fix it. You didnt' even break the windshield.

I wrecked my car in 1996...When you actually put it in the garage and take it apart it will not be as bad as it looks. I fixed my car, which had broken rear end mounts and control arms and all the wheels. I repaired the fibreglass and all the others problems and have been driving since..and since it is not a trailer queen I don't mind spanking it hard when I do drive it...more fun!

Glad to see you both made it OK....From the looks of the damage you were both very lucky....You should turn it in to your insurrance...most companies don't charge points against you for vehicle vs. animal...in my neck of the woods I've hit a couple of deer (in my truck...not the Cobra) and they did not count as an accident...

A shame to see another Unique damaged beyond repair.

Generally speaking, if you actually hit the animal then it will be covered under the comprehensive portion of your coverage. If you miss the animal and hit a pole, it will be under your collision coverage. Just another one of those obscure insurance questions. I'd still turn this one in to the carrier though, that's what insurance is for.;)
