In trouble-need GT40 transaxle
Hi all,
I have tried the GT40 section..%/ I have damaged my Audi trans axle and require a replacement. Any one got a lead on an Audi trans axle. They are out of the 1983 - 1987 Audi AU 016. Would appreciate a lead. PM if possible Bernie |

Maybe you need a stronger assembly
BMK Bernie, no trying to be a smart A$$ but maybe the unit is not up to the power or abuse you are giving it. Can you change it to something stronger of a unit. I am no real knowledge of the transaxles but would think that a turbo porsche might be stronger or something with a 450-500hp range?? Rick L.

Rick,
Hi mate, The Audi Trans is reasonably strong, however I launched the car off grass at high revs with a stuck throttle and it grabbed hard on the bitumen and went.. See why they don't let me on the track there with you at Midstates..**) This was a freak situation that should not be a problem. To fit a G50 box would require a lot of work... Any leads on a wreck yard or a trans there in NJ.. |
Cobradan
Dan Thanks for the lead. The eBay unit is an auto, but I will send them a question on a 5 speed. I have emailed the lkqonline. May get a response. Thanks for the links Dan. Bernie |

where's Waldo I mean Bernie
Bernie,
Here is what I was asking my local wrecking yards for. I struck out so maybe others here on CC will ping on the wrecking yards in there area for you to find a unit. This is what I searched for = "I need a 5 speed 016 trans axle. From maybe a 1983 - 1987 Audi 5000 but not the Quarto. Number on top of the bellhousing must be a 3UXXXXXXX, or 5Nxxxxxx or a AAZxxxxx. desired in this order." Can you find one in your backyard? |
I'll sell mine. Please PM me for details. Thanks!

Bernie, Did you PM Cliff Beer on GT40 site if your looking offshore, I think he had a couple a while back. You probably need something stronger though by sound of it!!

I've been with Rick Lake at several events where cars where running the Audi transaxle. I have never seen one, that I know of, finish the event with out breaking it.

Thanks all for the leads.
I'm on it right now. Bernie |

Prefer the 3U - diesel box
May have to go to the next level, and get a 'ZF' trans axle... |
