Sorry...you missed the meaning then.

People make outrageous statements in cyberspace, but in person, when they are in front of the crowd, the bravado fades.

Maybe comparing the cars is not possible, because we have not established a clear method of comparing apples to apples.

So, what is that method? Let's have a dialogue on it and determine what a base car means....from the manufacturer or via options to bring it up to what we decide a base car should be. Is that a good place to start?

No, some of us won't be satisfied until we have pulled the intellectual level of this debate so far down in to the gutter that Jamo is forced to step in and lock the thread forever.:p

And you're leading the pack.

Trying to answer which kit is best is a bit like answering 'whose wife is best?'. The fact that we chose our wives means they ARE the best in OUR eyes. If anyone would like to nominate a different wife then my argument has a flaw! :JEKYLHYDE

When someone tries to tell you why their wife is better than yours it is obviously to going to raise blood pressures and raise what we would quickly see as a totally pointless, subjective discussion. Why we cant see this is the same here leaves me a little bewildered. I used to hear this back in the UK, which is better, Gardner Douglas, Dax, Crendon etc. Same discussion here just different manufacturers.

The fact is that all the kits and manufacturers mentioned are trying to create emulations/replicas of a car that hasn't been built for 40+ years. So, removing the emotion and subjectivity from the question unless there is an EXACT replica, which I am not aware of, then ALL fall short to some degree and what is left is prioritizing one shortfall over another. i.e. do you prioritize exact dimensions and body style over interior quality over track performance...and so on.

There was only one source for the real thing, it is gone. All we are arguing over is which copy is better than another copy. Lets forget that and enjoy them for what they are...copies!

I know I enjoy my copy! :D:D

Go to shows, go to the dealers, go anywhere you can look at the different cars and make your decision. I spent 4 years doing this once I decided I was really serious about buying a replica (I really always wanted one). I bought the car that fit my needs the best. I could have bought any replica, and intended initially to buy a CSX car. After really thinking about how I was going to use the car, and what I wanted in a car, the SPF was the best for me.

I would add one more thing and that is to use the search function here on the Club Cobra Forum and sort and read through the many threads that address the advantages, disadvantages, positives and negatives of each Cobra manufacturer. It's all here.

That's easy: Like my Cobra, my current wife is better than my last wife, but probably not as good as my next wife. :3DSMILE::3DSMILE:

And THAT, in my opinion, is worth more than any comparison or spreadsheet.

If you read my post, it asked for everyones input. The chart is a start, not a finish. As for your claim of not attacking anyone, nice try, but you don't get a pass that easily. I am sure you would would not try that BS with me in person.

Try being a bit more of the solution and not the problem. Why not add to this in a positive way and not come off as a flame thrower.

Michael

Quit acting like a spoiled kid. I stand by everything I posted. On line or in person, makes no difference to me. Your chart is your way to justify buying a BDR and nothing more. Sorry.

Two guys escalating an internet difference of opinion to chest pounding, threats and personal conflict makes little sense. But while we're at it , let me assure you with all sincerity that if you said to my face that Backdrafts are better Cobra replicas overall than ERA's, CSX's, SPF's and Uniques, bet your bottom dollar buddy I would surely laugh out loud and tell you that you are full of it. How you choose to react to that is your problem. If you say that you like BDR's better than the others because of personal preferences and tastes, nothing at all wrong with that, just don't expect me to feel the same way.

My positive contribution to the chart idea is that the only objective set of standards for evaluating cars that attempt to replicate a Cobra is by comparing them to a Cobra. If we are to go with subjective opinions about what "looks nice" and "rides nice" we might as well forget it. As for which has "the best track performance" - lol! With what engine? Transmission? Who's driving? What track?

Patrick, TButtrick and Mr. D*ckey need to duke it out over who has the nastiest name on cc. Then the winner gets to kick your butt for putting two roll bars on a nice ERA! Hey - just like a BDR!! maybe thats why Dino gave ERA's a "5" :D

When I posted the chart, I said "I need more detail to finish...but you get the idea." Feel free to send me your ratings. I don't want to slant, I would have loved it if all the people who know these cars had at some point prior to my purchase had put this type of chart together, compiling all the data into one easy to read format making my research a bit easier.

I could really care less if you think I am biased...I am...I want a Kirkham...not an ERA. But I drive a BDR and like it for now. Is it 110% original? No...but what is unless it is an original 1960's car? Your car may approximate the original in various aspects, but it will never be original, no matter how hard you try.

Hmmm, let me see now, where is that "CLOSED" button...

Again, not forwarding the subject matter, but entertaining nonetheless.

Alas, on Cobra Country right now, you can get the brand new 4th Edition of the Complete Guide to Cobra Replicas by Curt Scott. I have never read it and I do not have any affiliation to the author or publisher, but it could be an excellent starting point for anyone considering the purchase of Cobra replica.

Does it say anywhere in that book that, when it comes to Cobras, the level of one's vehement is inversely proportional to the quality of one's build?:D
