Interior Modification
I am looking at a used cobra but have a challange. I am 6'3: tall with size 12 feet. I am looking to do some interior modifications to accomodate my size and wondering if anyone has tried the following ideas and with what result.
The most significant idea would be to narrow the transmission hump. The car I am looking at is running with a 351 small block so there is room to shrink down the cowl to make more foot room. Not sure if this is advisable or possible with out damaging the structural integrity of the body. Really looking to see if anyone has done this as it seems logical. Second, I would like to trim up the underside of the dash to make more knee room Third, I have heard you can remove the seat slide and permanently mount the driver seat as far back as possible. Open to other suggestions too. The car I am looking at is a Unique body and chassy built back in 1991. Feel free to weigh in with any and all thoughts, other than loose weight ha ha. Thanks John |
Hey John I've sent you a PM on this. Another place to gain some leg room is to dent the rear inner fender in as far as you can so it just misses the tire. That gives a precious inch or more.

One easy way to ususally gain alot of room is to replace the seat. Most Cobra seats are several inches thick both on the bottom and back. I molded a fiberglass shell thatis only 1/4 of an inch thick and had a nice cover made for it. I know that it's not an accurate piece but it increases room dramatically and is REALLY comfortable. I can drive the car 12 hours a day and feel great. Every authentic looking seat I have tried (not that many) are really uncomfortable. I feel like I am siitting on them rather than in them. Just my 2 cents.

There are some makes...Classic Roadsters for one...that has a longer wheel base by 6" that enables extra leg room in the drivers seat. I am 6' 220lbs with size 12 shoes. I had to move my seat forward a couple inches. I believe there is extra width too. Good luck! John |
John, I know some manufacturers supply an adjustable pedal box. It allows you to adjust the pedals for the taller driver. I didn't order it for mine as I am 6' 2" and able to fit in with the seat about 2 inches forward of the rear of the cockpit. From memory it was about a $400 option.
